MPP Question

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 7:47 pm

I have played Morrowind for a long time. I have beaten it quite a few times. I have also used almost every mod that has existed at some point or another. I have gotten extensively experienced with working out mod issues, and the game itself.
I sometimes walk away but I always come back to the game at some point or another so I have never disappeared from the game entirely.

I have also done a little modding here and there, but nothing major. However, I want to get...involved in something big. I am not to the point where I want to try to start doing any large mods to begin with, but I have my eye on something that
would allow me to involve myself in something large that already exists. I just want to check if it would be alright, and what your thoughts on this is.

This was released 2 years ago, almost 3. There was an original modder, who I guess left. Then this guy took over, and then he finally left..or at least stopped working on this mod. Would it be OK for me to take this project up, with a new name, using
his base code as the basis for what I am doing. Basically I would use his mod as a basis for what I am building, but I would continue where he left off in continuing to try and hunt down bugs and continue to try and fix them, including spelling issues, grammar issues,
and more. Just continuing to evolve it towards it's original goal of ridding Morrowind of bugs forever.

I was thinking of even taking on a secondary project after this one gets off the ground. Perhaps a secondary mod project that would release a series of fixes for major mods that the owners have stopped using. So I would create a series of secondary mods that you would
use WITH these other large mods, that the original modders stopped doing. Perhaps the original modder stopped, and there were still bugs. My goal would be to write a series of small patch mods that cover some of the bugs left behind by major modders who have
left the game, or at least abandoned there projects.

So what kind of permission status would I need to do that. Could I Just pick it up where he left off, or has Quorn given any type of permission for someone to do this. I don't want to just take someone elses work and run with it. I have written "Patch" mods before for other
mods, but never taken an entire project and ran with it. Wanted to check with the community before I do it, and hopefully get a response from the original modder who did it (or Quorn) or both.

Thanks again for your responses.

Quorn has recently stated that he is working a new version of the MPP.
He has not abandoned the project, he just stated that he wanted to re-do a lot of it from scratch so it might take awhile. :)

You know, I love the sound of that secondary project of yours. :)
So many legendary mods I would love to try, but which I know are full of bugs/glitches, so I don't. By the way, how would you choose which mod you patch?

I did not know that. With that being the fact, then that idea is out of the question. I had no idea he was continuing to work on it. If that is
the case, then I am just looking forward to seeing his new release.

I might try that then. I will open a post later about the project. I am not going to be "modifying" any of the main mods or changing them, I am just going to write "patch" mods that
require the main mods. I might even add enhanced content on a few of them in the patches where applicable.

Thanks for all the feedback, I appreciate it.
