[REL] MTC: Morrowing Trading Cards

Post » Thu Sep 02, 2010 10:44 am

I am having a problem talking to Hasphat Antabolis about cards: he keeps giving me the same response that others in Balmora give - "talk to Hasphat" etc.

Thanks for reporting this problem, and I was starting to think this mod as bug free...
Anyway, I've found the problem and solved it.
Here's a link to http://rapidshare.com/files/265700875/Clean_Collectible_cards.esp.
I'm updating on PES as I'm typing.

EDIT: PES updated.

This looks like a fun addition to the game.

New update!

- New icons (they're not flat anymore and they don't take up the whole square ;) )
- CoM version available: about 40 kids will trade cards, they can be identified by the card they're holding.

As always, have fun collecting! :)

This mod is awesome. Opening the packs reminds me of opening Magic boosters, and collecting is fun.

Have you considered adding a faction/club/organization of some kind based on card collecting, such as in http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=4855 by SamLake? Though that might make the mods a little too similar.

I like that yours adds gameplay effects with the albums. Trading with the CoM kids is cool. :)

I've never played SamLake's mod so I don't know what it's like.
I didn't think of creating a faction to be honest. I suppose the more cards you get the higher rank. So far the albums and the abilities they give are the reward (as well as journal entries for each set you complete).
Another issue with the faction idea is that some of the cards collectors already belong to a faction. (I didn't want to add npc as they'd be too obvious)
Still, I'll think about it some more, you never know :)

That's a good point about collectors who already belong to a faction. The abilities are plenty reward on their own.

Another small bug - if you buy several packs of the same type of card, and drop all of them somewhere so that you can open them, it treats the pile as one pack and so you only get one card. Easily worked around by putting each pack down separately, but still annoying when you've spent your last septims on six packs of daedra cards, only to get single scamp! :embarrass:

I had no idea about that, and I'm unsure how to go about solving the problem. I think I'll need to have my script looked at by pros

I understand how this can be frustrating... I hope you didn't actually spent your last septims on on packs of cards though, talk about addiction ;)

EDIT:
I've just followed the link to the Oblivion collectible cards and nearly wept: they're gorgeous!!! I see what you'd want to have them for MW as well. An there's a view mode? ah..., my mod feel very amateurish compared to this :(

Another EDIT:
The pros came through and solved my little problem in a heartbeat (thank you Archimaestro Antares!) the patch on http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7696 has benn updated, not the larger file because I can't update it myself (too big).
Here's a quick link to get the http://rapidshare.com/files/266850774/trading_cards_esps.rar

Once again thank you Aeddan for finding this out. I'd like to say please continue reporting problems though I hope you won't have to!

I really like your mod. Only stumbled onto SamLake's while trying to google the PES page for yours. Different graphic capabilities between the games anyway - I think yours looks quite nice, especially with the new icons.

Is the "trading cards" topic supposed to vanish from NPCs' topics list? I spoke to Magnus Stylus to get the list of cards, and after I told him I didn't have any Ash creature cards, he went "Humph." and wouldn't talk to me again (about trading, that is).

That's normal, you can trade cards only once a day with each collector, whether you go through with the deal or not. The topic disappear if the npc has nothing (left ) to say about it. So you can't keep asking about 'trading cards' until he (or any other collector) is willing to trade the type of card you want, say Daedra for example ;)

Ah, okay then. That's what I thought, based on poking around in the CS, but better safe than sorry.

I'm really enjoying this mod.

Danae, when I try to download the Patch_to_1pt0.rar on PES, I get a FilePlanet screen saying there's been an error with the request. Tried it repeatedly: same thing. Just to be sure the problem wasn't at my end, I attempted to download Morrowind_Tradi...rds.doc. There were no problems.

Thanks for letting me know and...
Bugger, that happens, I'll upload again and also put another link to rapidshare.

Edit:
Done and done :)

Another bug!

I gave myself all the cards for the Beast album, put them in the container, and received the Beast album as expected.

Unfortunately, when I put it down, all I received was the big yellow exclamation mark. The relevant lines from Warnings.txt are:

Model Load Error: Meshes\_Dan\card\aa_album_beast.nif cannot load file in Meshes\_Dan\card\aa_album_beast.nif.
Will use the default object Marker_Error.NIF.

It looks like all the aa_album_*.nif files are missing.

On another note, a nice tweak would be to remove the cards from the container when you receive an album; otherwise you can get the album, then take the cards and use them for trades elsewhere and still gain the benefits of a completed album.

I'm surprised about this and checked: the album meshes (aa_album_ash, aa_album_beast, aa_album_BM, aa_album_dae, aa_album_dwe, aa_album_kwa, aa_album_trib, aa_album_undead, aa_album_uni, aa_album_all) are in the main download file. They should be in Data Files/Meshes/_Dan/card
In case you really don't have them, I've zipped the album meshes and uploaded them on http://rapidshare.com/files/267240847/Meshes.rar. Let me know if that solves it.
Has anyone got the same problem?

I've had a few request to not make the card disappear after the album is complete but I made sure only one album could be made. In that particular case, it's hard to please everyone :(

It all seems to be working great, now!

One last thing, which is easily worked around, is that the names of the textures for the album covers are wrong - the files I had (from the original 1.0 MTC) were of the form "* album.tga", when what was required where "album_*.tga" files. Easily fixed, as I just copied the files to the new names, and it all seems to work quite happily now.

Great mod, a brilliant money sink, and just a little bit more depth to the world - well done.

Thanks yet again. I did rename the textures (to tidy the folder) in one of the updates but should have inluded the meshes they applied to in the patch. I'll do it right away.
You already had a spot in my credit section, I just think I'll have to make it a larger spot...

I'm glad those problems didn't put you off playing the mod.
