MTC: Morrowind Trading Cards

== This mod adds 73 cards to collect, each of them representing various creatures found in Morrowind, Tribunal and Bloodmoon.

== The cards can be found in various containers except for the rarest and unique ones.

== The rarest cards can only be traded: their current owners will let you know what they want in exchange for their card. You will need to ask around to find those cards collectors.

== Other card collectors are scattered around, speak to Magnus Stylus in Gnisis, Madrach trading house for tips and a list of these card collectors.

== You may also buy packs of cards from traders; you will discover what card is in the pack after you open it. Rare cards can be found this way.

== You may gather your cards in albums. There is a special container are behind Magnus Stylus. Once a set of cards is complete, you will receive the album
for this set. (your cards will still be in the container)

== There are 9 albums to make, and each of them will give you a special power (see spoiler section if you can't wait to find out.)

== Card albums for sale in bookshops: they are called 'guides', have the illustrations and descriptions but don't give any power.

== New icons for the cards (no screenshots, but really, they're nicer)

== A Children of Morrowind addon: about 40 kids now hold a (visible) card and will also trade them.

Spoiler
Ash creature set: Resistance to poison and paralysis (ability)
Beast set: fortify attack, (ability)
Bloodmoon set: frost resistance (ability)
Daedric set: summon golden saint (power, once a day)
Dwemer set: summon enchanted dwarven short sword (spell)
Tribunal set: fortify fatigue and endurance (power)
Undead set: turn undead (power  low cost, 100% success)
Kwama set: night-eye (ability)
Unique card set: fortify luck (ability)

I have extensively tested the scripts and dialogues of this mod, I was however too lazy to play a game over long stretches of time to test how often cards are found. I did play up to level 15 and thought chances to find cards are quite balanced.
Please let me know if you feel the cards are too easy / difficult to get. Thanks!

Something you may want to consider tweaking is that if a shop owner has a pack of cards on display you can currently unwrap the card and take it without it counting as theft. BTW I love the way you have to put the pack on a surface and then activate it to see and get the card in my opinion it works really well and I like that my first view of a card is in all its glory out in the game world.

Good point, I didn't realise that opening the pack would remove the ownership... I placed the packs in very few shops, only those traders that said "I sold a pack to Whatever npc" to make sure they'd actually have at least one pack for sell.

So first thing to do: put the decks out of sight!

I love unwarping the cards too, reminds of the excitment when I bought Magic cards!
By the way, MTG (Magic the Gathering) should not be confused with MTC (Morrowing Tradind Cards)

Thanks for your feedback :)

Cool concept. I may just have to download . . . ; ]

It would be awesome if you could 1) make a mini-game were you could play against NPCs for gold/ cards, and 2) mute the colours a little bit. It's a pretty minor thing, but I don't download a lot of mods because they just stick out too much against the muted and rustic hues of Morrowind.

I won't lie to you, there's no way I can script an actual card game for Morrowind...

I think the packs of cards are the only items with really bright colours (it's a packaging thing to attract customers!) and they are not placed ingame apart from 1 at a few traders. But please, do download the mod, if only to confirm that the cards are indeed to colourful! ;)

The album page link above shows a description of each card, along with its image. I was wondering if that image and description is actually in the game, and available to the player, without first completing an album?

No. If you're interested in the descriptions only, I more or less took yhem directly from the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Creatures. If you wanted the descriptions ingame, I can quickly make an esp that adds the albums (without the bonus spells) to a bookseller.

A small update:
-Card albums for sale in bookshops: they are called 'guides', have the illustrations and descriptions but don't give any power.
-New textures for the books (the old ones are still available in the download) and the new textures will work with the old esp if you don't want the guides.

I just HAVE to say this: You should make a version that is compatible with Children of Morrowind. I can SO see the kids collecting these cards. Maybe even using them for education like flash cards.

That's a very good idea. I originally made the cards for my nursery so it make perfect sense!
The main card collector already has a 'card-shield' just like the children are holding some teddy bear-shields so they could have the card as well
I suppose some kids (those holding a card) should have the 'trading cards' topic as well.

Anything else comes to mind?
I'll try and contact Emma for permission before I get started though.
In any case, thanks for the suggestion :)

Thanks :)
I won't have much time for modding in the next month but I already have a few updates planned for this:

-PL's creatures set (album power:resist normal weapons?)
-town set (album power: some teleport spell?)
-armour set (album power: shield effect)
-weapon set (album power: repair skill buff?)
-class set (acrobat, etc...) (album power: +1 to all attributes?)

Also, I've already got a positive reply from Emma, so a COM addon is also on the menu!

EDIT: Darn, that's the second time I type COV instead of COM...

I love this mod. There's just one thing that is bugging me, but that counts for a lot of mods: The icons. They stand out a lot because unlike many vanilla icons, they are completely flat.

But I guess it would be hard to have some sort of rotated card icons, like the book icons... Flat ones are much easier to make.

edit: Actually maybe the reason I feel they stand out is because they fill up the entire icon square.

Anyway don't let that bother you, I'm looking forward to that update. :D

No worries, the icons do need an update. I've learnt to make the nicer ones when I made the new books. It's not hard, just tedious and 70+ of them is, ... really tedious but I'll get round to it ;)

Thanks for your support everyone :)

I love the idea of this, and I'm so glad that you are intending to make an add-on for the Children of Morrowind, too :)

I am having a problem talking to Hasphat Antabolis about cards: he keeps giving me the same response that others in Balmora give - "talk to Hasphat" etc.
