So much for a lack of Dragons.

I'm skeptical, yet hopeful, if they're going to have Dragons in the game. The Dragons could have just been symbolic, like they have been a lot throughout the series, but I am also very hopeful. Bethesda is known to come out swinging with a little extra something in their arsenal. It'd definitely be awesome to see, but it won't ruin the game experience for me. Either way I have believed M'aiq all along!

Bethesda should make dragon fights exactly like Monster Hunter :foodndrink: , then revert back for everything else.

On a serious note though, I believe everything worth saying has been said. Dragons were always around, they just weren't shoved down your throat. Hopefully things will stay that way aside from a few boss encounters.

EDIT: That damn cat [M'aiq] better be in this game! He wasn't too impressive in Oblivion.

Spoiler alert

M'aiq is the Tiger-Dragon emperor of the Ka Po' Tun and is the last boss of ES V. You heard it here first.

You know what else is cliché? Swords. Knights. Wizards. Trolls, Orcs, Elves, Goblins. It's not about clichés, it's about how well you integrate them in the story.

Personally I'm excited about the dragons, IF they do them right. I don't want them to be around every corner, and you can slay them with a few swings of your weapon. I want maybe 5-6, and they should be incredibly rare and incredibly dangerous powerful.

Edit: I guess powerful is a better word than dangerous, as we do not know whether the dragons will be friend or foe yet.
Dragons could be like Vermithrax, Ancalagon and Glaurung; Or like Granamyr.
I hope its done more like the first meeting of Bilbo and Smaug, than like the con in DragonHeart.

How is this a U-turn? It was known (or rumored) that there were still Tamrielic dragons in hiding, and we did not know if Akavir still had dragons but it was likely.

Exactly! And that is why we don't have to worry about just another one coming our way  Seriously, I see this as an opportunity for the writing team in Bethesda to show what they are really made of and prove themselves once again.

Damn straight.

That small and easily overlooked fact holds true for just about every thread here on the subject of content, from storyline elements to combat systems.

And yet they are, clear as day in the teaser trailer released. What is everyone's opinion on this seeming U-turn in the lore? Can it be pulled off or is it a cliche included in order to appeal to a more casual audience?

I don't know why anyone hasn't brought this up. The trailer was a stone wall (I believe) possibly describing a prophecy (seeing as it had stuff from Morrowind and Oblivion). Having the dragons on it was hardly "clear as day." We have no idea if we even see a dragon or just stop their return before it happens. Further, it could also be a metaphor as someone pointed out. Now we don't know anything yet, though I assume that we will see a few dragons.

I hope that dragons do play a role directly in the game as the trailer hints. And I do hope that at least a couple of the dragons are bad. It would be awsome to face off against a Dragon with 1000's of Hit Points. I would love to see a creature like that, I want to see an enemy that I am afraid to face with my level 25-30 character.

I think it is more likely it will be something like in Dragon Age: Origins

There are very few dragons inthe world, only one big dragon you fight at the end.

Gentlemen, am I the only one that doesn't really question their presence, but rather the fact that they suddenly seem to be evil? As far as I know, they were allies of the Empire (heck, they are considered holy by the empire). There is also this thing with "Their defeat was merely a delay"... what defeat? Did I miss some kinda epic, yet cliché war between the goody-goody humans and the Evil Dragons?

They could add a couple of dragons as rare creatures(optional enemies and quest givers)
When i say dragons i think huge, powerfull dragons that can squash you , not drakes or serpents...

Dragon fights? Make it like Shadow of the Colossus! In first person! yeah! :bonk:

Or, you know, maybe we could not have dragons be some sort of embodiment of evil that must be slain?

You people scraming "NOOOO, THEY DON'T BELONG!" to dragons realize Tamriel started off as a DnD gameworld, right?

I think it's not so much that they don't belong, but that they shouldn't be splashed all over and especially not be killable. I don't care either way, but it's logical that if the game were to include dragons, they would have to be the focus. It'd be like if a group of T-rex's appeared in downtown New York.

Yes there are dragons in the game, it has been said by Beth, but that doesn't mean there is going to be a sh*t ton of them flying around.

I want dragons to be these massive monsters that you cant kill unless your really a master player. A noob killing a dragon would just ruin it for me. But a level 21 mage....

I'm fine with the dragons as long as they do them correctly as the lore states they are. Extremely intelligent. And not super evil world destroyers cause that's how they roll
:flamethrower:

Yeah...in the nordic pantheon, Akatosh (known as Alduin to the nords) is a raving mad destroyer. The redguards, too, also believe Akatosh to be a raving mad devourer (along with Shor/Lorkhan/Shezarr). But, hey, they might be on to something. Time devours all, after all.

Also, as far as I am aware, the lore "fanatics" do recognize there are dragons in Tamriel. The only thing is that they were hidden, either disguised as people or hiding in caves, and that they'd be too difficult to kill, not to mention illegal (unless you are Cyrus, but he's the biggest badass in TES)

There are a few things about dragons.

it is well estabished lore that the Tiger-Dragon Empire of Akavir has dragons in it (after killing most of the dragons in Akavir and enslaving the rest), and if they invade they could certianly bring dragons with tem, there are also the dragons in tamriel that fled Akavir who are still mortal enemies of the TD Empire. If there was an invasion they could come out to help fight them off.

It an all out Inter-continantal Dragon hoedown. :disco:

I think I saw Inter-Continental Dragon Hoedown at one of their first shows in D.C. back in the 90's. I felt their work really started to go downhill after their second album when the accordion player left. But their early stuff was great. B)

Yeah, this is what is making me scratch my head. As far as I am aware, Tiber Septim (I think it was him) gladly took in the dragons for safekeeping in Cyrodiil, after fleeing Morrowind. But, he made a condition that they were to come to the aid of the emperor, should an emperor call for their aid (like in Redguard).

The only group of dragons I can only see as wanting to attack Tamriel are the kitty Akaviri ones. While I'm not going to fully believe the dragons are from Akavir, or could be an Akaviri invasion, it was the dragonborn, Reman, who defeated the Tsceaci invasion. And the kitty leader of Akavir, Tosh Raka(?), who did say he had plans to invade Tamriel once the snakes were defeated.

Well if my lore remembering is right, the kitties never invaded only the snake people did(Tsceaci and Ka Po Tun). So if in the trailer they say that their defeat was only a dely then the kitty dragon people are not the ones. Neither are the dragons since they never attacked and are sacred. Dragons in the video could just be a symbol. I believe they will keep the dragons to a very minimum. I doubt everytime you turn around dragons are going to be sitting there.
