And not only drop us somewhere in Tamriel but butt naked with out anything and first 30 minutes in-game time would be half blurry, half like we would be back in the prison before getting all "stable" with reincarnation. Now that would be amazing..

I don't like starting in the main city, but it wasn't hard to run to the docks that was nearby where the quest giver was at and return to those islands. I just wanted to go back to see if there was anything new, and the skyshards as well. I also think you're making a rash decision based on feelings at the moment. I would just give it a few days and reassess this after you got you're head cleared. I suffer from TBI and PTSD, and this new setup screwed with my head as I felt lost, but once I saw the docks and realized I could go back I was perfectly fine. As for the story line part of it, it's not damaging at all to start now in the main city, and then just leave for the starter islands. You don't lose anything because of doing that for the story line's sake, you are going to go back there right away anyway, and you just have to imagine the logical sense after all that your character has been through, would not trust the prophet or anyone else and want to leave for an island to figure things out. Then again, it's just my take. I am disappointed with this but I am not going to cancel just because of something like that.
Immersion was broken for me at the very start with the literal 1,000's of people running around like headless chooks in the first beta, but it was funny.
If you don't like it, then you don't have to play.
I'm guessing they paniced under the time constraints and flak they were getting from the community. This is precisely why they should ignore the player base and go with their own vision. If they feel something is amiss, by all means they should change it; what they shouldn't do is attempt to appease the masses, because let's face it, most people don't know what they want, they think they do, until they get it.
Starter Islands, case and point.
"Oh my god, I can't see my screen! What is this madness? Change it now!"
"No weapons or armour at the start of the game? This is stupid I can't kill anything!"
"I have no idea where I am or where I'm supposed to go. This is nonsense they ruined the franchise! I'm cancelling my pre-order!"
Probably some of the reasons they didn't take that approach, which is a real shame, because you're right; it would have been amazing.
^ I like your posts and you have the patience of job.
I feel it might be wasted on Ryzengar though.
Agreed I will wait and see what happens i guess but i cant help but feel as if i spent money on something that i enjoyed but now may potentially hate. I hope they find a middle ground between sandbox and story starts i know personally i had several friends try the game out for the first time based on my recommendations last beta test and within 2 hours they all told me the game svcks and had no desire to continue playing and it was because of the starting experience its not lore friendly and its not new player friendly. I also suffer from ptsd but not tbi i was a medic in the service for many years seems us vets get the crap end of the stick.
Actually like the sounds of that better as long as it was written into the story well not wasted on me you just lack the insight to see it from my point of view.
It's becuase you don't have one point of view. Your opinions are unfounded and fickle. Two minutes ago you were cancelling your pre-order. You can't honestly expect anyone to take you seriously when you change your mind every other minute.
No mate, I see your point of view, I just think you have blown it right out of proportion, a little adolescent really.
Real issues for the game are things like phasing, (there are others worth mentioning but I don't want to derail the train) they are the things that the devs need to be spending time on me thinks.
Im just angered at the whole situation in general and im not sure wtf to think at this point. I finally found a game i love then they changed it and my feelings have changed.
Yes, it was a poor decision to jump us past the starter islands instead of letting us choose to skip them. But we can get to them in about a minute, so it's hardly a ragequit worthy mistake.
I assume this is coming from the people who where whining about it not being sandboxy enough?
If you truly love it, then you'd take it warts and all.
So get on the ship and go back to the starter islands.
These issues wont matter when they launch this game in this state with this start and no one subscribes, then revenue is down and then the crap goes f2p im an advocate for this title im trying to make a point so this game does not flop shortly after release. This change was not received well by new comers to the beta testing nor was it received well by many of the concurrent beta testers, I want this game to succeed I thoroughly enjoy most every aspect of it, but this change was so drastic, sudden, and poorly planned that it left a bad taste in many peoples mouths. My friends wont even be playing this game so why should I now this last beta scared them off?
For storyline purposes it might have been better if they had done something along the lines of having a member of the Psijic Order meet you on the island and offer to teleport you to the mainland as they could sense that you have already experienced this branch of the time line, or other appropriate mumble.
They however did not, we have what we have, which is not so terribly bad. Just a minor glitch in the continuity of the story, and yes I understand that it is the principle of the thing etc.
Players are fickle, but let's be honest here. Nobody is going to quit the game because of the starter islands now being optional, it's just not going to happen.
So now you are a fortune teller.
Methinks ye art thou a troll
I don't understand how I suspected that but, when you got PTSD so many different thoughts come and go like train cars in a train wreck. It's tough to understand unless you got it. One thing I am keeping in mind is Beta is what 33-66% of a game, there very well could/should be a new set of story to explain all of that, even if it's a simple saying from the prophet "I can open a portal to the docks of X city" Once their obviously there will be many people in the town looking for help. I believe the prophet is still there when you get there telling you he has to go somewhere or whatever but will be in touch with you in the meanwhile see what you can do to help the people of this city out. It's kind of like the beginning of Skyrim big [censored] dragon attacks then you go to the town and they tell you join a civil war, meanwhile I am thinking "THERE WAS A [censored] DRAGON AND YOU"RE WORRIED ABOUT A CIVIL WAR?". I don't think they would change the direction of the begining of the game and not explain anything why you're in this big city and not where we originally started. I also think now it gives those islands more intrigue as you go to the docks and it easily becomes the first quest to leave the zone you're in to help out that island.
It's disappointing this happened imo, but even though this close to launch I think this is a small fix to add story line and bring back the voice actor to explain this. I think all will be well to be honest. Easy for me, in a few days I will barely remember anything from the beta haha.
PTSD svcks to be honest sometimes when i hear certain noises i hit the floor for no reason, i avoid potholes like they are ied's i sometimes wake up in a sweat and dont know where i am (kinda like the elder scrolls online start lol )and yes being very particular and ocd kinda comes with the territory of prior service and ptsd. I guess we just have a "unique" way of seeing the world around us that not many people get, yes I can be irrational at times and seem adolescent but i think alot of it comes from all the trauma ive seen in my life. Im not perfect and ill be the first to admit that I can tend to be rash and overly opinionated as well as unwilling to accept change and perhaps thats more the issue here than the game who knows.
So on that note I am sorry for any disturbance I have caused I will "try" to enjoy this game at early access and take it for what its become, maybe even play a little skyrim to rekindle the sandbox in me a bit. Thank you for you guys patience and screw you guys who insulted me just saying.
Ryzengar
Looks like the white knights are out in force today.
You people are going to kill this game.
I did three tours in Iraq and came home with PTSD and ALS. I can't so anything about the ALS but I can control the PTSD. If you aren't getting help, get it. It doesn't have to control your life.
Bare in mind it was the people who were complaining that got us in this mess to begin with.
It's not white knighting. It's just not being lazy. Get on the boat and do your starter islands. Two clicks shouldn't break your hands.
