Much needed mod

Post » Fri Oct 16, 2009 1:02 pm

In any game, illusion is heavily overpowered; a simple command/fury spell makes your enemies do your fighting for you, leaving you to to clean up the half-dead 'victor' once the brawl is over. Even FCOM is made fairly easy with illusion. The reason, I believe, illusion is so overpowered is because your enemies have no way to counter it; if you cast a fury spell, all they can do is wait until it wears off.

I suggest (having no modding ability myself) that someone create a mod which gives enemy spellcasters the chance to possess a dispel spell, which they will use on themselves or their allies who have been furied or commanded, or on you (if they suspect that there is someone invisible in the corner).

Tearful bump

There must be someone who can solve this problem.

Have you tried out any Mods changing the way enemies behave like OOO, Frans or FCOM?
I'm not sure, but as they make combat harder they will surely not have forgotten something like that.
If those don't help you'll have to ask somebody who knows scripting to do it.
I'm no good at scripting so I won't be able to do it.

If you wanted every overpowered magic effect nerfed you'd also need to hit weakness to magic, chameleon, fortify attribute, fortify skill, and lots more.

Numerous mods nerf the overpowered uses of chameleon, but I don't know of any that target frenzy / calm / etc. Well, Supreme Magicka does double the level at which they effect all creatures.

Running FCOM right now. If anything, FCOM overpowers illusion even more because of the increased enemy spawns. You can see some lovely 5v5 fights.

It's not that I want it nerfed, it's just that I think there should be a way for enemies to counter it. All of the effects you mentioned could be countered by simply giving spellcasters dispel spells, either to use on themselves or you.

You wouldn't need to give them Dispel.. (in fact, it would be messier to do that..)
All you really need is a simple script that checks to see if the spell effect is active on them, and if it is then roll a random number within a certain range.. if the number is too low, the script does nothing and repeats itself in a few seconds or whatever. If the number is too high, remove the spell effect and display a brief message saying "So and So resisted your Command spell!"

The principle behind it is ridiculously simple. The only tricky part I can think of is determining how to attach the script to the target creature, as it needs to be effective for pretty much every enemy in the game.. it's been a long time since I've done any scripting for this game, though I'm pretty sure it's entirely possible to do this. (or should be)

Once an enemy mage is berzerk or mind controlled, it's generally a little late for them to start dispelling your spells. Plus most of your targets aren't mages and don't have a friendly (and uncontrolled/berzerked) mage standing next to them. Also, some of those are cheap out of combat, not just in combat. If you want them to have a way to counter it, Willful Resistance (makes willpower attribute grants small amounts of magic resistance) might do better than dispelling w/ AI tweaks.

Anyway, as mentioned, I think your best bet is Supreme Magicka, as it will at least make the level caps a bit more relevant.

I've seen FCOM mentioned here which strikes me as strange considering the dominant mod is Oscuro's which in itself nerf's the Illusion tree big time. No more abusing 100% chameleon or invisibility, with most higher level enemies immune to the effects of paralyze and frenzy.
To the OP, are you using mods like Supreme magic or LAME to overwrite these effects?
