Muffle enchantment on higher levels

Post » Sat Aug 06, 2016 3:34 am

Hi guys, I looked a bit around and couldn't find a good thread discussing that. Hope it's ok to make this.

I'm currently at lvl 68 but I haven't played many quests yet, decided to work my skills and get the best gear/weapons first after dying a lot on beginning.

Went mainly for battlemage build but I found it quite amusing to play as an archer assassin and I just started to build a set for that.

Thing is I can't find boots with muffle effect to disenchant and learn it to use on my set. I read that muffle is considered a weak/low lvl enchantment, therefore it's quite rare to find boots with it for sale at this point. Much easier when you're low level.

So far I'm trying to get it from Warmaiden on Whiterun since I can check the inventory from the shopkeeper inside the shop and from his wife outside. I've been doing the: check inventory/save/atk salesman/reload thing for quite a while but to no avail.

Anyone has tips/hints or a best cost/benefit strategy (timewise) to help me finding a disenchantable muffled boot? Thanks in advance!

edit: ah, I also could use some advice on which enchantments to use on my weapons (daedric sword, bow and dagger). I'm inclined to fiery soul trap + smt else (paralyze, fire/shock dmg or stamina absorption), but input of more experienced players would be great!

I've never had luck finding muffle boots. They seem rare as can be. Happily the spell is easy to get. Dual casting it increases its duration. Half way up the sneak tree is a perk that gives you full time 50% muffle. Further up the tree is another perk that gives you full time 100% muffle rendering all else obsolete. I do sometimes enchant muffle boots for followers but confess that I use the command console to get an initial pair to learn the enchantment.

As far as weapon enchants, fiery soul trap is a great choice and pairing it with Azura's Star makes recharging easier. Absorb health is another good choice I hear. I confess that I enchant weapons based primarily on the glowing color I want them to have. Lol.

Oh, is that so about the sneaking perks? So if I plan to max my sneaking perk tree (which I do) then enchanting boots with muffle becomes useless? You sure? If so I'll use smt else instead, maybe carry weight.

Absorb health seems nice indeed for melee weapons, I might use it on sword since you're usually taking hits while using it. As for dagge I'm inclined for paralyze since it basically grants the kill if you fail to do a 1-hit K.O.

And for bow I read that absorb stamina is great since it allows you to keep zoomed (slow motion) longer since you get stamina refill after each sucessful hit^^

Yea, I read that. But on the walkthrough* I watched says that this perk is broken and that it does make sound when he runs and he gets detected, specially on legendary difficult.

I'll run some tests to make sure though.

* idk why but I can't post links, but if you wanna take a look it's a very good assassin build. look for

Dark Brotherhood boots/shoes have muffle. Do the Thieves Guild boots also have muffle, or is it pick pocket? Are they "disenchant-able"? I can't remember :)

I guess both (Worn Shrouded boots and Nightingale boots) have muffle on them, but as they're unique items they can't be disenchanted :\

Guaranteed muffle boot that can be disenchanted in there? I looked on wiki and it seems a Dark Brotherhood quest, right?

sorry for asking but I'm kinda new to the game and haven't performed any of DB's quest yet. But if I read right the boots you get in there are the Ancient Shrouded Boots, right? If so, they are part of a unique set and can't be disenchanted either.

With Muffle being a 1 level power enchant, they start becoming rare after about level 4-5.

Disenchantable boots of muffle are not available in random loot until player level 11, and become less likely to appear as player level increases above 11. At your level, 68, it is nearly impossible to acquire them. :(

The Predotor's Grace boots have Muffle. They can't be disenchanted, but they are available at any level and are the only boots with a full muffle effect. All others not enchanted by the player are only 50% muffle. http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Predator%27s_Grace%C2%A0

Ebony Mail has a full muffle enchantment as well. It can't be disenchanted and its quest isn't available until player level 30. http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Ebony_Mail

If you ever plan to get muffle in the future go to Riften as soon as you hit player level 11. Exploit Balimund until he gives you boots of muffle. Balimund has the largest inventory of enchanted armor and weapons of all smiths.

All that said, there is still one chance for you to acquire some deadric boots of muffle. The Atronach Forge, some rare ingredients, and some good luck could get them for you. http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Atronach_Forge

I've seen Ebony boots of Muffle plenty of times but daedric, never. But then daedric enchanted are as rare as hen's teeth anyhow. I usually get them as loot items on Legendary dragons or similar very high level enemies but other than that, almost never.

Thanks for the suggestion on Atronach Forge. Never used it but I'm already farming void salts to try that. I've googled and found ppl that got daedric boots of muffling using the forge, so I'll give it a try. Maybe gather around 20 of everything needed, use the forge and reload loop.

Since it seems to yield any random daedric enchanted armor parts I figure it'll take QUITE a while. But I'm really determined to build a "perfect" assassin build so I'll go for it.

Thanks again for the light on how getting muffle at this point :)

edit: I read that the Muffled Movement perk works at 0.5 muffle and an enchanted boot will add another 0.5, giving max muffle (1.0).

If that's accurate and I have muffled movement + enchanted boot with muffle I assume the Silence perk is no longer needed? I'm consider to skip the last 2 perks on sneaking tree if that's correct (assuming last perk Shadow Warrior is not that great). Any input is welcome.

I'm playing on XBox 360. Old version, don't have the 1.9 patch nor any mod or DLCs yet.

It has its advantages. I bought the legendary edition and though I enjoyed the new content and being able to use sneak enchantments, I long to return to the unpatched version of the game. I miss pre-dawnguard vamps, archery's bullseye perk, and being able to level smithing with leather bracers made from hides I collected during hunting.

Guys, I got it on Atronach Forge, it worked!

I gathered 20 of each needed ingredient to summon a random daedric enchanted equipment and on second run the daedric boots of muffling showed up!

Iow: in about 40 uses of the forge I got them. I consider that a good or lucky outcome.

Now I can finally finish my assassin gear. Thanks a lot for everyone's responses :)

Outstanding! It can take more times than that exploiting Balimund at player level 11. Tis a good day for you.

Why farm them, instead of using the Atronach Forge to bring them in? You'll need the following:

  • Fire Salts: Salt pile + soul gem of any size + Ruby/Flawless Ruby/Silver Ruby Ring/Gold Ruby Necklace

  • Frost Salts: Salt pile + soul gem of any size + Sapphire/Flawless Sapphire/Gold Saphhire Ring/Silver Sapphire Necklace

  • Void Salts: Salt pile + soul gem of any size + Amethyst/Flawless Amethyst/Silver Amethyst Ring

Courtesy of uesp.net. Had to check the ingredients for myself anyway, since I'll be needing some soon.

Thing is I had not many amethysts either, so I'd have to farm them instead.

I exploited Solitude's alchemyst a couple times for void salts and it was fine.

Worst part was definitely walk my way out of the forge with almost 1K weight till my headquarters to store all that xD

Btw, I enchanted some daggers with banish and they worth 1.3k septims and no blacksmith or vendor has this amount to buy them.

And now I got even more expensive daedric equipments to sell. Is there anywhere we could sell such expensive stuff?

If you're in the Thieves Guild, fencers should be able to buy them at full price.

Other than that, Investor perk from Speech will let you invest 500g on any trader, to raise it's barter gold. Master Trader raises this by another 500g.
