Muggy and Toaster - too greedy?

Post » Sun Jul 31, 2011 4:35 pm

This annoyed me: I go to the Toaster and he takes all my "junk" - including Hot Plates. A bit annoying since these are used to create Super-Heated Cosmic Knives. Granted, I know Toaster himself can also do this, but I like the flexibility of creating them at workbenches.

Then, I go to Muggy and, even worse, he takes my Coffee Pots! I know technically you only need one to make Black Coffee, but they're quite rare so I'd rather not throw them away for the sake of a couple of Scrap Metals.

It seems like there was a disconnect somewhere as to what was actually a "junk" item and which items have a use. I know the obvious solution is to store these items before talking to the Sink denizens, but this seems a bit of a hassle. Was anyone else annoyed by this?

nope, don't care at all what they took, since cosmic knives are purely weak as hell, and the fact that Black Coffee is actually pretty lame (unless you made your character as smart as a bag of bricks)

This topic made me want to have a cup of coffee :o

But yeah, it would probably be a good idea if you were given the usual choice of handing over 1/2/3/all.

No, not mugs, pots. Mugs are everywhere. Though admittedly you need them to make Black Coffee also. I think I had maybe a dozen pots when I hit Big MT (NB: I'm a hoarder and a filthy weight-limit-increasing cheat ;)) and they all got gobbled up.

Not at all, just a minor annoyance, just curious as to whether anyone else was bugged by it. And at least it's not another "zomg LR NEEDS [random COD weapon]" thread ;)

I think it would be more of a hassle to set up each type of item as a separate option to recycle within the appliances. I'd actually prefer it if the Book Chute could be given pencils, books, and clipboards all in one go, much like the Toaster can be given toasters, hot plates, and cameras in one go. What you're suggesting involves more clicking on each appliance. Good for you, I suppose, but I expect this would annoy most others.

You'd be complaining it was a hassle if you had to designate how many he's allowed to take too.

If you think its a hassle to simply remove hotplates and coffiee pots from your Inventory before talking to the toaster, I can't imagine how you've been playing this game very long.

I suppose hoarding coffee pots could be useful if your grand scheme involves the design and construction of a "Mr. Barista" robot ("You're getting me steamed, Commie-scum! How do you take your vicious beating? One lump, or two?!?")

Otherwise, it seems like a totally pointless endeavor, but hey, each to their own.

Not at all, I'm completely ok with handing them all over with one click, I just don't like that those particular items are scrapped at all (this also covers Longknife's post).

IMO a "junk" item is one that doesn't have any other use, except to sell. We don't even have the Rock-It Launcher anymore, so things like clipboards and books are effectively useless. Pencils are Pre-War money are mid-way - they're unusable but they're 0 weight, so they're decent to collect for sale, but nothing else. So, I don't really see why these somewhat usable items are being considered as junk. This also goes for Tin Plates, since these can be used in Meals-To-Metal. Basically, IMO if an item is used in any recipes they shouldn't be included in the scrap lists.

Just because you think its useful doesn't mean the rest of the world shares your opinion. Just spend 10 seconds taking the useful items out of your inventory.

And you don't even really need more than one pot - isn't the coffee pot re-usable? And yeah, just have the Toaster heat up your knives. The only thing to be wary of is the coffee mugs themselves...just in case and all.

How many normal ones do you have anyway? There isn't exactly a bottomless fountain of them. Here is my collection:

1 Cosmic Knife
1 Cosmic Knife Super Clean
1 Cosmic Knife Super Heated
1 Knife Spear Clean

They're all in mint condition, and that doesn't leave to much headroom to make more Cosmic Knives super heated.
