Multi platform kills titles

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 3:28 am

Hi i own a very powerful pc as i prefer pc gaming and i cant see why his game is being made simultaneously for all platforms i love elder scrolls but its always been pc first then xbox / ps3 with bad bad bugs for consoles ie vampire bug on ps3 GOTY edition bethesda never did actually fix that still to this day :P

firstly my pc specs.

i7 950 cpu v8 cooler equip
24 gb ram corsair vengeance triple channel 1600 mz
2x hd6970 crossfire 2gb gfx cards

there the main parts to run games :P all you really need to know. Now no ps3 or xbox will match that hence why there games do not look as good ever a perfect example of this is crysis warhead it was not made for any consoles and still will out do any console game on pure gfx
now look at its next gen version crysis 2 which was made simultaneously for all platforms its looks utter rubbish it cant match its predecessor at all the maps are small no open land load screens everywhere and visual effects don't even make use of DX11 and yes i know this isn't a crysis forum however
its a perfect example of the point im making games on consoles will not ever be as good or as big and by making it on all 3 you usually ruin the title

now i am trying to think ahead of reply's and i know people are going to bring up fall out 3 which was also multi platform and did well but can you honestly say it was as big as oblivion ? in pure side quests alone you could have completed fallout 3 before you scratched oblivions main story and when they did finally port oblivion to consoles it was a bug ridden mess which bethesda NEVER fixed

to make some sense here i want skyrim to blow oblivion away in length and looks and can you really do that on a console after all even on a multi disc release games still end up shorter on consoles ie Final fantasy 13 no matter how many discs you amke it its short game because of the texture sizes were a pc really doesn't have a limit i will be buying skyrim 100% regardless of this rant i just want to make my views heard consoles cant use half the power of my pc and i want to use the power of my pc on games i enjoy.

i also want the game to be huge and not a tedious console failure as they had to pack the game up to make it fit on the crappy 8 gig limit to console discs

do not do a crysis money means a lot because it brings in more profit for future releases and you make more money on 3 platforms i know but if you kill the title like crysis have managed to do you lose a lot more in the long run ive never yet been disappointed in a bethesda game ever you make 10/10 rpg games and i always recommend them but times are changing and consoles cant keep up. and the consoles wont be releasing new models any time soon due to the fact they failed massivly with them all

xbox 360 -RROD lost profits
ps3 - YLOD + lack of titles for 2 years

they really cant throw up another console with such failed projects out there now.

all i want is a little bit of reassurance pc gamers will get a game not a PORT!

Thank you for taking the time to read this and i am very sorry for bad grammar or spellings in this small text thanks again - long time gamer! kowon

Nothing is being ported.
All platforms are developed simultaneously.
Xbox gets it first now 'cause Bethesda knows that they are the biggest population--they said so themselves.

Haven't read all of it yet but I was under the impression that both Oblivion and Skyrim are being developed in the 360 and being ported to the PC and PS3. I'll add more once I finish reading. :3

The Creation Kit, which is being used to create the game, only runs on PCs therefore the game is being created on a PC.

I really don't see anything positive about this thread as this is just going to lead to console flame wars.

This. Without consoles, Bethesda would have a much tighter budget on Skyrim, which = less features.

Your welcome.

The destiny of this thread is inevitable.

Why can't we all enjoy our games on our platform of choice?

Inb4 consolewars. :whistling:
But honestly, Todd has even stated that about 90% of bethesda gamers play on console, so they can't be that much of a failure.
I'll admit, pc's are better for elder scrolls games, but still, options are good.
Some people don't have well-functioning pcs (like myself), and besides, would you rather play on a small computer screen, or a huge flat screen tv.

Well, we lowly console owners should just learn our lesson and get the table scraps of the pc gamers. This thread is pointless and, to be perfectly honest, very uneducated.

I dont really see what you are trying to say, but if you are wondering to get it for PC or console
PC-better graphics-will cost more-mods so if you dont like interface it can be changed-more bugs
consoles-xbox port I think-less money-less bugs-worse graphics, but wont be that noticable-maybe mods
but if mods do make it to consoles, you may not be able to make it on the computer because the editing tools also require certain hardware
it is going to be a port, but it will probably look better than other games, and there will be mods

The development tools used to make both games only run on PC. Think about it.

Enh, I honestly don't mind that much if the console is the same as the PC or not. I'll still play, the the PC tend to be more open with more support. I do care about graphics to a degree, but seeing how they look now, its not an issue. I'll happily play a game on low quality if I can't get it to work on high (for what ever reason)

Also... punctuation would be nice. Your post is a little hard to read and follow.

Either you are lying, or you spent way too much money on that PC. You don't need 24 GB of ram, period, for anything, nor do you really need 2 of those video cards unless you are planning on running 4 top of the line games from 2020 on 4 different monitors, and three windows of the most advanced graphic designing software simultaneously on another.

Also, graphics aren't everything, and the game will look better on PC to begin with, with higher resolution texture packages.

Without the consoles, the budget wouldn't be as monstrous as it is for Beth right now. You should be happier than anything else.

Well that svcks.

So you would deny many people the game if you could play it at high optimal graphics?

I think people are concerned that games in general are not reaching their full potential due to differences in hardware across platforms.

While I am also a PC guy, I do have to say that it would be nice if we all got along. PC vs. Console is a touchy subject for some people, myself included, as I see pros and cons for all sides.

One thing I do see, though, is that consoles are holding back technological advancement, as PC gamers have to wait until hardware cycles to experience console ports that will utilize their hardware. But, then again, we owe a large majority of the budget of these games to the console side, so it's a win-win, or a lose-lose, depending on your attitude.

PC elitists should be thankful for us console kiddies.

After all, we've increased Bethesda's budget by millions of dollars. I'd like to see how Skyrim would turn out without the massive sales of OB on the Xbox and PS3.

Not trying to flame, just speculating, but if someone signs up, makes one post, which is a contentious thread, then goes offline, should you trust them?

OT, if you have such a powerful pc, then a fully modded game, which will end up being far superior to a console version if you are careful about making it stable, should run no problem.
