multi player dropout

Post » Thu Mar 17, 2011 7:47 am

Do we know how drop outs are handled? In halo their spot won't be filled back up so it really svcks if anyone leaves. (even though they still do). So i like in Black Ops or MNC how spots get refilled but then i think people drop out more since there is no penalty and they figure someone will take over eventually. Plus those few minutes of unequal teams can really cost the game. So I guess the best system is where people are punished for dropping but then their spot is filled up with someone later.

Yes. As soon as someone drops from your game, they will be replaced by an AI bot

I also think there should be an exp penalty for that, to prevent people from dropping out when they insult everyone and can't back it up later. Or to prevent people from doing something stupid in a game and leaving to prevent any retaliation. Nothing major, so casual gamers wouldn't really be affected by it.

Something like..... 5-10% of your current exp, or 100 exp?

I guess that's ok. Do you know if people will join the game in the middle and take the bots place?

Yes, people can join in seamlessly. Their custom characters replace whichever bot they kicked out.

or since you can have multiple characters being leveled at once, if you drop out with a character you are not allowed to use that character for 15 minutes or something. Then people would level more characters up at a time.

That would probably work a lot better, but I see a lot of people rage-selling this game over that IMO. You'd be surprised how many people whine about cheap tactics, then whine some more when they aren't able to do said tactics.

I don't think they should be penalized, because a number of things could happen:
You could disconnect
Your clan could have disconnected and they want you to quit
You could have an emergency in real life
A kid or family member might turn off your PS3 on accident

Sure, all of those could happen. I'm sure that some of them do happen. But I think the great majority of quits are because people are losing or get killed a bunch in a row. If there is a punishment of some kind, people don't have to be punished the very first time they leave a game early.

^^^ This

And there's a difference between disconnecting and actually hitting the "Quit" button. I'm sure the devs would easily be able to write code for that difference. If you had a real life emergency on your hands, then I doubt that some stupid penalty on a game would make you stay. IMO family is way more important than imaginary numbers on a piece of electronics.

As to the clan thing, well if they all quit then it was probably for one of the above, non-serious reasons.

No offense but if you read up on the game a little better all of this was explained, they said you could be in a single player game and it could turn into a full on multi-player war in just 5 minutes, meaning players replacing bots and bots replacing players. Again, no offense but watch some of the dev. videos before jumping to the forums, you will probably get a quicker, and more thorough response that way.

And why should they be punished for leaving? If they leave because they are getting killed or losing, ultimately they are leaving because they aren't having fun. I don;t see anything wrong with that. What if you bought a ticket to a movie, and you went in the theater to watch it, only to find it is one of the worst movies you have ever seen. You you want some sort of penalty to occur for leaving the movie early?

That's not really a fair anology, because nobody is depending on you to stay in the movie theatre.

I honestly don't see why rage-quitting will even be an issue for the rest of the team with Brink's seamless transitions. If someone leaves the game because they're getting destroyed, the AI that comes in to replace them will in all likelihood help the team's chances more..

That's not really a fair anology, because nobody is depending on you to stay in the movie theatre.

No one is depending on you to stay in the game either - A bot will take your place.

- The only time it really comes into play is if the player that quit was really skilled, and in that case, chances are he's not going to quit early.
- If a lesser skilled player left, chances are the bot will be a better teammate anyway.
- If you're in a situation where your team is getting slaughtered and having all the men you can is crucial, then a person quitting early still isn't the problem - it's the skill balance between teams.

Even in a scenario where a player leaves and causes you to lose, so what - it;s a game, get over it. You aren't playing in a league with sponsors and it's not a job.

Would also like to not e that bots can be disabled as well, so if you don;t like the idea of bots playing or taking your place, they don;t have to.

That first statement can also be applied to the quitting penalty. And we know that the disabling of bot features will be in the PC version, but has it been confirmed for consoles as well?

That's all well and good but what happens on those occasions (and these are more frequent then you might think) where someone leaves and the bot fills in at a turning point in the match? Say your team is getting dominated somehow, and there is an easy way to turn it around if someone can accomplish a certain objective. The only problem is all your guys are dead/pinned down and that person who left, that person a bot is filling in for, was the only one who could complete that objective. Your teammates can no longer tell him where to go, they can't say "Hey, avoid this route right here - it's a death trap. Instead, we want you to circle around the long way and plant the bomb/help the npc. It'll be a close call, but you should have 5 seconds to spare!" because bots don't have ears.

You just lost your game since that one person who could've helped decided to leave instead because "his friends wanted to quickscope", or "his clan wanted him to join their practice game to show them the ropes", or some other stupid situation.

-And rage-quitting isn't the only reason I suggested this penalty. Look at my other posts.

You are speculating and assuming that the bot(s) could not be competent enough to fulfill the role of the player he replaced. Like I said, unless the player that leaves is a top player on your team, someone a bot most likely couldn't replace, you really have no cards in your favor. Your scenario is nothing but a theory at this point.

good point, but the fact that he wasn't really helping anyway still applies. Obviously that scenario would be extremely annoying, but if the player svcked that bad it can't be THAT great a loss

You're under the impression that the player who left must've done so because he was bad at that game. He could have been a great team player, or a great marksman and then left simply because of one of those reasons I mention in my earlier two posts.

And he doesn't have to be the top player on the team, he could be at the bottom and that wouldn't matter because this game is focused on objectives and not your K/D ratio. It just has to be a human player, one who can follow directions and can see the path that his team knows will lead to victory. Bots can't do that, they just intake and process information based on percentages and probability.

How do you know what the bots can and cannot do? Have you played the game? It has been stated multiple times by devs and people that played the game, that bots are no joke. They adapt to player playstyles. They flank, they can use all the skills players can, they complete objectives, are good shots, the whole nine. Also, since there are so many reasons as to why a person would leave mid-match, the most reasonable thing to to players that do it, is nothing at all.

I don't really see how someone who insults everyone and then drops out, or someone who is detrimental to their team, can be considered a great team player
