Multi-Shot Bow Ability

Post » Mon Sep 06, 2010 8:55 am

I like the idea of shooting an extra arrow at the same time, only 1 extra arrow though any more just seems ridiculous but I would rather it hits the same target since they would probably go more or less the same trajectory I think. Having it as a perk means if you think it's too Hollywood then you don't have to take that particular perk and it adds a bit more strategy in that you can do more damage to one foe at the expense of using your arrows quicker which means alot since arrows are going to be rarer.

Yes, I see it now, a "Robin Hood: Men in Tights" character with 5 arrows on the bow. Would have to strategically pull some of the fletching (ala Kevin Costner's Prince of Thieves). Maybe throw in shattering shot from Dragon Age, and a tornado. Yep, definitely need a tornado. :whistling:

Just because you don't like the idea doesn't mean you have to post just to be an ass, he said nothing about tornados or shattering shot, or dragon age :stare:

Why not do it simpler, you get a perk where you can do a follow up shot or two fast, downside is stamina drain and reduced accuracy on follow-up shots.

Downside of multiple arrows is that they would have to share the energy doing less than half damage, and its very hard to aim against multiple moving enemies in combat.
It would also be a nightmare making the controls work. you would probably be stuck with a fixed spread who would be hard to use.
Had made more sense as a sneak attack where you has time to aim, the sneak atack bonus on two enemies might make it worthwhile

Well, I was, should I have started a new topic when there already was one available? I thought that was frowned upon.

they already said bows will be much more effective in skyrim, so taking out multiple enemies easier would go hand in hand with that.

Thats what I thought it would be like. A perk makes the most sense. Rather than being able to do it froms tart, you develop the skill. So mages wont be skilled enough to be abel to do it for instance.

Besides, didn't GameInformer say that archery is going to be stronger in this game than it was in previous games. So Multi-Shot wont really be necessary maybe? and as for taking out 2 enemies at once with it wont make much sense, unles you mean dual wield bows. :ninja:

Oh you're actually serious? I thought you were just mocking the idea, my bad.

I'm sorry, can you link evidence that encumbrance in TES is based on lbs? K thanks.

Daggerfall weighted items as http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/3939/dfkilos.png. So, based on the stats here, the ratio of encumberance to strength is 1.5 : 1. 1 kg is equal to about 2.205 US customary lb. 330.75 lb is the total amount alloted, in that case. Certainly more mathematically sensible than Morrowind or Oblivion's nebulous unspecific weighting system, nevermind perceived weight and how it sticks onto your character (wearing a suit of armour is going to hamper your manovreability less than carrying it jumbled up in a bag, assuming someone trained in its use, for example).

About the bows:

SCIENCE MAGIC to the rescue! Enchanted arrows that send out area of effect/multi-target magic, like explosions (fire), chain lightning, shrapnel or slicks (ice/frost), and clouds of corrosive, malodorous, effluvia (poison).

Even better, they all double as crowd control. It's hard to move, much less fight, when you're A. On fire; B. Spasming uncontrollably; C. Falling; D. Hamstrung; or E. Choking. Fair? FAIR!?! If you want fair, you can take your tin suit and can opener back up to the frontlines, raight nao.

If magic isn't your style, then we can settle for Rapid Shot, already suggested here by several people. I like seeing my arrows/bolts/bullets blot out the sun, but there's no way I can think of that being possible without incorporating Conjuration.

That makes me wonder if we'll be able to cast a "bound arrow" spell since arrows will be more rare.

I think it would be nice to shoot two arrows at once, *maybe* three, but leave it at three, maximum. Definitely need to be obtainable with a high level Marksman Perk, If you could load up two (or three) shots on several targets in Sneak Mode, you could end most encounters very easily. I hope this ability becomes a part of the game; I played an assassin who used bows, and I hated how I couldn't finish fights by the bow alone on targets who knew of my presence.

I guess that had to do with the leveling system, but if someone likes playing an archer they shouldn't need to pull out their sword to fight their enemies if they are of high enough skill. Did you pull out your sword in Oblivion as a pure mage in Oblivion when enemies got close? You more than likely didn't as you either had a high damaging Touch spell or Paralyze spell waiting. So why should pure archers *have* to pull out their sword? Understandably, they are two different combat styles, but they share the common trait of ranged combat, the art of killing your opponent from afar, before they get to you.

Oblivion had it right with the skill perks, giving MM a knockback and Paralyze, which gave archers breathing room. Hopefully, these perks make a return in the new perk system, along with some more interesting perks like the multi-shot bow ability.

the only way I think you could put this in effectively is if you draw it back horizantely like in stealth mode, two or more arrows are drawn, and there is seperate crosshairs for each arrow. it is up to you to make the cross hairs line up though,

If you held the bow sideways it would kind of spray. Like how you do in stealth.

I see a lot of people dont seem particularly fond of this idea. Personally, I dont like the idea of multiple targets on one pull of the bow. I dont like the idea of life seeking arrows either.

But I dont necessarily hate the idea of a perk that lets you draw back 2 arrows at once. What is wrong with that? It could be a higher level unlocked perk, with a high marksman to match, and would deal twice as much damage as normal or something like that. Not a horrible idea.

Well, in reality when someone seems to shoot two arrows at once, they really shoot 2 in rapid succession. The problem is that there would have to be a modified shaft and string to space the arrows enough for them to shoot in a reasonable manner. A perk like this could be better created by drawing out 2 arrows, and firing one while having the next in position to be nocked, just nocking while drawing back for the next shot.

-Note- It is possible to pull off 2 arrows at once. its just normally not effective, limiting range and accuracy. And it takes a lot of practice, though it would be rather fun to do in Skyrim. I used a selective fire mod in fallout 3 that let me unload both chambers of a shotgun (I know, completely different) and it was a very satisfying feeling, blowing a head clean off.

They'd all fly in the same direction, just less accurace.

I'd rather have logical perks instead of hollywood-stuff like this.

Because TES is the most logical game series out there, I mean its so real to life today, there isn't a different right?

Dude what you just said is that hollywood isnt realistic while TES is...

I think he is alluding to things like physics. TES is pretty much governed by real world physics where as Hollywood tends to make action over the top and exaggerated. I don't think he was implying that he though TES was like real life!

I was just wondering how would one effectively fight multiple foes with a bow and arrow in Skyrim. Something I came up with would be once you level your ranged weapon skill high enough or have a perk for it where you could draw back multiple arrows (possibly by pressing x (ready weapon) while drawing the bow back).

Well thats was in oblivion

And how does that help you fight multiple enemies? The arrows are going to follow very similar trajectories.

Not necessarily, you could have the arrows face just a slightly different direction, one pointing nort-north-west and the other north-north-east. If two enemies are standing on one meters distance from eachother you could teoretically hit them both at the same time.

A perk for this that makes the shooting of the two arrows twice as long with reduced range could be cool.

I actually favor this idea. Considering this is actually possible(I know because I've done it with my old bow), I think it's actually much better suited for being in Skyrim than even the "zoom" perk. (As much as I like that feature from OB, it is highly unrealistic.)

I think this could be easily implemented and well done by the devs. I mean, look at how easily it's handled in the Double Arrow Nock Shot mod already in place for OB. I don't see any problem with this, and I'd also like to point out the most important thing no one has even said in this entire thread...

Despite arrows being buffed, it will still take at least a few of them to take down bigger, tougher enemies. Therefore, it's actually practical to doubleshot with a bow if your target is the chest of a charging mammoth/ogre/giant/DRAGON/etc.

Better to put multiple arrows in a split grouping on your target to slow, incapacitate, and ultimately kill more efficiently. 100% yes to the OP. Nothing too ridiculous like the current world record 7 arrow multishot, though.

I bet he didn't 7 arrow multishot against several different moving targets that were attacking him though.
I still think it makes more sense for them to hit the same target, unless your targets are completely stationary I doubt you could aim the arrows to hit them properly except by some random stroke of luck.
