Multiplayer Colosseum

Post » Wed Nov 10, 2010 1:46 pm

Not at all. It wouldn't work anyway even if Bethesda did it. Magic first and foremost has always been overpowered in TES. That is not going to change. Even with the improvement of archery and perhaps even melee wielders, magic will more than likely still dominate. That being said, there would really only be one kind of character that would have a chance in this Colosseum, and most would just not enjoy it. The only way a Colosseum system could work is if players couldn't use their single player characters, and they were forced to pick between pre-determined gladiators for the sake of fairness. That doesn't really sound fun either, and just becomes generic arena-type pvp we already see in most AAA MMOs today. It just won't work. BGS is strictly a single player RPG developer anyways. Your only hope for a multiplayer TES will come from ZeniMax Online, as their secret MMO in development is probably TES.

Wow!! Touchy subject.

First off I can understand the balance issues that such a thing would present. The last thing I would want to see is the single player experience dissected to accomodate a multiplayer one.

Secondly, to be honest I wasn't even thinking about the problems that mods would pose when I posted this thread.

Thirdly, though, I can't believe the overwhelming NO NO NO to such an idea. It was a hypothetical scenario guys--that was all--I was basically asking if you guys would enjoy the experience that could be had if such a thing were implemented--if it were implemented without sacrificing any aspect of the single player experience we all have come to enjoy and love. Its as if the very mention of 'multiplayer' and 'elder scrolls' in the same sentence is blasphemy to some folks and each time the two are uttered together it weakens the integrity of the franchise. Cmon guys if that mentality governed the growth of the game industry, we'd all still be playing pong.

This is just how the TES community is and has always been. You can't exactly blame the community either. Shortly after the development of Oblivion, a lot of gamers actually wanted some sort of co-op or multiplayer in Oblivion. BGS commented and stated they make strictly single player experiences, and they do it well. If they were to try and make a multiplayer experience, it would only harm the single player aspect, and honestly many agree with BGS's logic. That would make TES seem like just another typical game out there on the market with an average campaign and forgettable multiplayer system. So while many seem unreasonable, those are the expectations BGS has set, and the community respects and accepts them.

Now it would be crazy for there not to be a multiplayer aspect for TES in this day and age, as that seems to be the way the industry is going. Bethesda doesn't have to do it however, which is why ZeniMax Online was created and formed in 2007. I believe they will answer your call for a TES multiplayer as they have been working on an unknown MMO since then.

But that's genserally what happens, fans or psuedo recent fans come in, bark for features from other games to be included, the company gets pressured and tries to appeal as much as it can, then the game is crap because even though it might have -everything- everything is poorly made or thought out, I only hope Beth takes a light stance on that and developes -thier- game the way they visioned it which may or may not be spectacular.

Nah, such a system would be too easily abused. Besides, what will happen to mod content?

No, noo, nooooo, no no way in hell, No way jose, That answer your question? Multiplayer doesn't need to be in a game for it to be good. Look at Oblivion and Morrowind, better than pretty much any game with multiplayer.

I look at Bioshock when I think of whether a game system could be changed to suit multiplay. I was surprised it didnt have multiplayer aspects to start with and
when they released multiplayer on bioshock 2 I quite enjoyed it. It was a good little addition to the game.

I dont think that it would ruin TES to have multiplayer, I seriously doubt they'd let multiplayer get in the way of creating a damn good single player game. After Skyrim they might expand again
as a company and have the resources they need to deal with multiplayer and single player properly.

The first time I played Morrowind I thought it'd be good fun to have some of my friends playing beside me. It's something I've noticed about single player games is that it gets
quite lonely running thorugh a dungeon with only yourself as company all the time, and while automated companions kind of deal with lone wolf syndrome it's not an ideal fix.

I think having a small multiplayer DLC, like a colosseum would be a good thing to test the water. Just to see what it's like, and if it can work out, and to see how many download it.

I'm always, ALWAYS for coop play. It irritates me not to have my friends able to drop into a game and join in my fun. All games would benefit from coop. The story doesnt need to change just
because you have hired help.

MMORPGs exist for this very reason. BioWare is making a KotOR MMO (SWTOR) and ZeniMax Online is more than likely making a TES MMO.

This belongs in the official MP thread. They already said anything regarding MP should go in that thread, not it's own.

You would have to build a game from the ground up to accomodate this.

What if some dude comes in and shoots you with a Harrada, Rot Scale , Spiddal Stick & Entoloma Cap poisoned arrow?

In case you aren't aware, that poison has the following effects: Burden, Damage Health, Damage Magicka, Fire Damage, Paralyze & Silence

Didn't the Game Informer issue confirm that it is single player only?
