Multiplayer Connection

I thought there would be dedicated servers. It seems like it picks host like COD does. I have already experienced a host migration. I am disappointed about this. It's a beautiful game but because of the lag I am getting some bogus deaths. My reload and aim down sight lags sometimes. I kick a car and it takes 1 to 2 seconds for my character to do it on screen. Bad Company 2 and Medal of Honor had dedicated servers, why doesn't this game? I got frustrated with lag in Black Ops and quit playing it. After the honeymoon phase of this game, I will probably quit playing this game because of the connection issues. I was hoping this game would be better than COD. This game definitely has the potential to be number 1. I find it funny that a no name game like Homefront has a better multiplayer experience than the awesome Crysis 2.

I have only played TDM so far. I hope there are some larger lobbies than 6v6. Some of the maps are so large that on some of the games I played yesterday I spent most of my time running around looking for people. I found some people trying to camp to get killstreak rewards. Once they unlock dog tag retrieval it may get worse. I was disappointed they put killstreaks in this game. The game does have the best graphics out there.

Yeah I don't like to beat a dead horse but that's been my biggest complaint so far, (well my only complaint really). There's not really any skill involved in the MP at all. It's all about your connection and which team the host is on, (host team won every single match last night for us).

I noticed this too. I don't typically complain about this stuff (and really, this close to the games release, an EA game at that, it's probably to be expected), but it was really prevalent in my short play time last night.

I was getting absolutely destroyed for a few straight matches, then suddenly I get the "waiting for players" screen which I've since learned means I was the host, and I dominated the entire match.

Obviously, I'd like to say it's because I was awesome, but that's just not the case. I knew I was getting kills I shouldn't have been getting and enemies were just dropping like flies. It felt like all I had to do was look in their general direction and they'd go down.

I haven't experienced lag to this magnitude on this generation of consoles yet, here's hoping the issue gets resolved because outside of this I'm really enjoying the game.

be happy, i like the P2P system more than server. I played Bad Company 2 (which had server) and the game waas so screwed up and laggy.

Exactly my experience as well. I was the host a few times and it felt so cheap. In the matches where I wasn't I felt cheated. It's a no-win situation.

Ehh, I don't know about that. I really, really like BC2 and have never really had much of an issue with lag in it. I do play the 360 version of that game though, not sure if that makes a difference at all.

Speaking of, does anyone have any experience with the 360 version of Crysis 2? Is everyone experiencing similar problems, regardless of platform?

I know there's not a single console shooter out there that won't have a group of people somewhere on the internet screaming "laaaaag!!!", but it'd be good to get a feel for what the majority are experiencing and would probably help in identifying what needs to be addressed in a patch...

I get the "waiting for players" screen everytime I try to search for a game but no one comes, maybe that's because there aren't many players from my region. Anyways after a couple of minutes of waiting I end up getting dumped in a game with an american host which is impossible for me to play with :(
I've been having a red bar connection ever since I bought the game and it's really getting frustrating .. I wanna play god damn it :(

Day 2:

Still getting lag. I really want this to be a great game. The graphics are so awesome. I am so sick of COD. Still getting lag when kicking a car, reloading, and aiming down sights. Yesterday on Skyline, I was getting shot ran around a two corners and ran almost into one of the greenhouses then died. The killcam showed me never making it around the first corner and getting shot. They should have made it so you can't get on top of the center building. I played a team last night where 3 people were camping up there the whole match. To quote Duty Calls, "boring." I hope EA, and Crytek will be fixing these issues, I am fed up with Activision and COD.

Day 3:

I was host for a couple games last night, it was awesome. I got 17 kills before going down. People would hit me, and I was able to turn around and get the kill. I find it odd that the game switches up hosts quite a bit. I guess its nice because the host backing out doesn't kill the lobby like in COD. The iffy connection is going to be the achilles heel of this game. The lag is the only bad part of the multiplayer. I am already on level 21. Once I get to level 39, I don't know how much more I will play this game. I may need to hurry up and trade it in to get max money for it. I feel Medal of Honor had a better multiplayer than this game.

The game switching hosts is the only thing keeping it even moderately fair. As you found out for yourself, being the host basically means having God mode enabled.

Almost a week of playing now. The connection is still the worst part of the game. I was in mid sprint yesterday and got stealth killed on. The killcam shows me sprinting into a cloaked guy and he knifes me. This is not how it appeared on my screen. I been killed from around corners a couple times. I have stuck it out and got to level 28 to try scarab. I want to try last sniper, but I don't know if I can put up with the game that long. I got killed from around the corner again a couple times over the weekend. It seems there really isn't any point in using another gun than the scar. All the other guns are nice, but the damage is not as good as the scar. The guns may be better once the lag is taken care of, but for now other guns are for breaking the monotony. People are figuring out how to play the game now and it seems to be getting worse. Played a team the other day that all they did was run in a group with silenced felines. They were also the host so that didn't help either. It also seems like people are hiding in corners more and camping. I don't know if people are just getting trying to get killstreaks or what. This is slowing down the gameplay on bigger maps and getting boring. One game I spent half the match running around the map. There should be some 12 v 12 lobbies. I hope the connection is being fixed because I'm about done with this game. I will be going back to Homefront with their dedicated servers where I can still do work with a 1 bar connection. I am having a better online experience with Homefront. EA won't be bringing down COD with this game, that will have to wait for Battlefield 3.

Day 7:

It is so awesome being the host. You can be getting shot, do a 180 and still get the kill. If I could be host all the time this would be an awesome game 24/7. I was able to get maximum nanosuit twice in a game last night. I wonder how it picks host because I know my cousin has a better connection and it picked me. It would be cool if it switched up host every game, so 1 player doesn't have the advantage the whole time. There is still lag when I'm not the host though. Yesterday, it seemed people were stealth killing me while I was sliding. This happened a couple times and seems pretty bogus. On my screen there was no stopping, but in kill cam it shows me getting hung up. What is up with the spawning? It seems when I spawn I can't move for a second like I'm caught on something. This has gotten me shot a couple times. How in mid slide can they do this? The melee is a bit overpowering too, it reminds me of commando perk in MW2. They need some other play lists. I played extraction last night and the game lasted 3 minutes. I spent more time in lobby and load screen than the actual game. I've tried the other play lists and the game modes seem too short. Plus you don't get as much XP as in TDM.

Week 1

Online is still iffy. Its best when you are made the host then the game plays like a dream. Its difficult to get triple kills in the game, but most of it is from poor connection and hosting. Instant action seems to be the best game type. The objective modes don't last too long. I have been trying to play classic gametypes, but it doesn't seem like enough people trying to play them. I have sat in lobby for ten minutes with not enough people joining. It would be nice to have a counter on screen to know how many people are playing lobby. It is getting frustrating that a lot of people are running around with silenced felines now. I don't think they should have any silencers in this game, or silencers should effect damage and range.

Last night I got stuck in aim down sight view. I couldn't run and this got me killed. It also cost me ceph gunship. I do like that the game is more about the suit than weapons. It takes a bit more thought into what you will do for engagements and multiple targets. The spawn system needs to be improved. I have shot people on spawning and been shot. I got killed on the first spawn on parking deck earlier. The aim assist seems to be a little over powered sometimes helping people get double kills. The game has froze up a couple times, and I had to turn off PS3. I have had a couple load screens without the proper wording. It looks funny to see map name and gametype here. Also, placeholder text goes here.

The connection is the biggest issue right now. This needs to be the first thing fixed to see if the other things are really an issue. It seems the PS3 forum is the smallest. The PC forum has over 3,000 topics. I guess the consoles are at the bottom of the list.

Day 8

Same old, same old. More people playing with silenced feline it seems. It is getting old being blind sided by people every single game. I am trying to grind it out to level 39 to try the last guns, but it is getting repetitive. I really wish there were some better objective game modes or make the current ones last longer. I don't get how crash site works as far as the points go. The person that is not playing objective and just going for kills is ruining this game type. I am noticing that the host for each game is normally the high score of each match. The spawn system can be crazy sometimes. I am getting tired of spawning on someone getting shot or next to an enemy. The aim assist seems to take over and get people double kills if you run too close to a team mate. The melee at times seems like commando perk from MW2 with the player jumping 5 feet to get kill. I wonder how well nanovision works because I sometimes can't see cloaked enemies that are close to me. I didn't pay attention to killcam to see if they had blind spot 3 though. I just found out it makes it harder to be seen with nanovision. I wish the suit energy lasted a bit longer, sometimes it feels like you can't walk and chew gum at the same time. I seem to run out of energy at the time I need to run or jump even with recharge 2 ability. These are all moot points, the thing that really need to be fixed is the connection still. I don't like the P2P hosting, it's what is drawing me away from COD. This game can be so frustrating at times that I am ready to trade it in. EA really needs to put dedicated servers in this game to make it number 1. I really like the suit options, it makes it so you have to think about what you are going to do.

Day 9:

Tried using the grendel last night. Not really that good of a gun but probably because of the lag. I shoot 4 to 5 bursts into someone then they don't die. There seemed to be a lot of bogus moments last night. I shoot someone a couple times then try to melee and die. Then killcam shows the other guy shooting at me and missing. Then the guy get a one hit melee kill. The final kill cam for the game was just as bogus. The guy jumps off a building and doesn't hit the last enemy but the enemy still goes down. I noticed a few people using a jitter modded controller with the grendel too. The lag can be pretty bad sometimes. It took 3 guys to get 1 enemy on parking deck last night. Once again, I got a ton of hit markers on the guy but no kill. Seems the lag makes people look like they are running super fast or teleporting across the map. One function I do like is the automute non squad members. Its so funny when people trash talk because the lag can be so bad it has nothing to do with skill. Its like bragging about lag switching. Played a match on terminal that took forever too. Everyone wanted to hide in shops on bottom level. Seems like I have been playing this game forever. Because of the bad connection, I feel like I am playing futuristic Black Ops. It would be nice to hear something from Crytek or EA.

I have been getting killed so much by silenced Felines lately. Seems like at least half my deaths are courtesy of that combo. I have also been lucky enough to be host a few times but you know what? It svcks. It just feels cheap and unfair. I hate it when the other team has host and I hate it when we do. Either way it's simply unfair to one side and takes all the skill out of the game.

Please do not mistake LAG with the maximum Nanosuit. It looks like he's wearing armor, but rather than a constant shine, his armor is flashing. If you see one of those, run. You can barely take someone out who has it up & running, even if you shoot him with like 3 ppl. he can still walk around and melee kill them all. So, flashing armor = run

Almost 2 weeks, post patch:

I got this game mainly for multiplayer. It was an EA game, so I was expecting dedicated servers. The p2p hosting is ruining this game. The patch was supposed to fix some multiplayer stuff but seem to be worse. Yesterday I got shot through a column. Another killcam showed the guy not even hitting me with a bullet. I didn't expect this game to be perfect, but I expected it to play better than this. I am still shooting half a magazine into somebody and they kill me in one shot. The melee is almost as bad as commando perk from MW2. The car kick seems to be quicker now. My retriever module was reset. People are now boosting capture the relay to get ton of points. I don't blame them though it takes forever to level up especially to get last guns. Amazing that people would prestige in this game. My cousin finally got gauss sniper rifle but it isn't that good. This game should be the best game out there but the lag is ruining it.

Seriously? Are you truly that ignorant? If you can't see the HUGE host advantage this game has you clearly don't know a lot about P2P gaming.
