Multiplayer Morrowind

Maybe now is a bad time to mention this idea since many people will be occupied with Skyrim, but it was Skyrim that got me thinking about this; within just hours of Skyrim being released, people were already decoding its various files and planning all sorts tools and utilities, the likes of which have already been made for Morrowind and Oblivion. And needless to say I don't need to remind you all of the incredible breakthrough that is the Morrowind Code Patch.

The point I'm getting at is this - we have more potential now than ever before. With all our current knowledge about how Morrowind works and our ability to edit any aspect of it (I say "our" as if I have had anything to do with it - I know nothing about the code myself but I hugely respect everyone who has worked on all the projects that are out there), I can't help but wonder if this idea might be very possible: Multiplayer Morrowind.

I'm not talking about turning Morrowind into an MMORPG or allowing hundreds of players to connect to each other at the same time, but just a simple host-and-join system, even just for 2 players across a LAN.

Although I've never tried it, http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.detail&id=5331, but from what I've heard it is full of problems and is basically unplayable. But it's a start! Problems can be fixed. I think if the community came together on this, provided other people are as interested in this idea as I am, it could be amazing.

Let me know what you think,

Project Aedra (and the other engine re-writes, like OpenMW) are going to have a multiplayer feature.
That's pretty much the only way multiplayer would ever work.

One would need to be able to add TCP/IP code into the game engine and that's not possible from what I've read. As Pluto said, it'll take a new engine for true multiplayer to work.
