Multiplayer Tips and Advice

Post » Sun May 24, 2009 7:24 pm

I intend for this to be a continuation of the thread I had previously started with the name "Pre-released multiplayer tips and advice" and since Crysis 2 has released the "pre-released" part of the subject doesn't make sense. I am going to link the previous thread so that you can access the post that other people posted so that you can have as many resources as possible. Also, please feel free to upload your videos and share your opinions or tips and also critique other peoples videos and advice so that we can get better at what we are doing.

Thanks for the post. Nice commentary.

I got in on about 4-5 matches ealier today. Seems like there were a lot more people using invisibility during the matches that I played than what I saw on your videos. My guess is people are relying heavily on invisibility while they get their bearings straight.

I appreciate the tips. Hopefully they will help me become nearly as good as you are :)

MP tips:

SCAR owns.

for the rest: figure out what your play style is, and how your abilities play into that. i found myself playing the Single player with only 5 unlocks for my suit, since those matched my playstyle best. the same for MP. unlike BF and unlike COD, Crysis 2 offers a multiplayer adaptation level which as far as i know, is unprecedented.

ok heres my problem. In the demo I used cloak + nano vision to spot enemies and not get snuck up on. I'd sprint/ledge grab to an area while cloaked. snap on nano vision, check the surroundings, if nobody was around i'd crouch, recharge my energy and redo the process somewhere else.

now the retail version has majorly nerfed nano vision to where it is pretty much useless. I'm working on getting covert ops leveled so i can see cloaked people better but i'm getting owned alot now that my strategy doesnt work anymore.

My problem is that on the smaller maps 8v8 is waaaaay to saturated. If i'm fighting someone, i usually get hit on my flank by another guy, or seconds after i kill someone other people roll up on me. The only way i see to counter this is energy transfer so at least i'll have energy after a fight.

The biggest issue is that it seems that sprinting altogether is just a BAD IDEA. Since there are so many damn players if i put myself out there even a little bit someone will most likely spot me and shoot me before i see them.

This has reduced me to leaving cloak on and walking around at normal speed. I've been able to cut down on how much i get snuck up on/flanked significantly but the game is just boring as hell that way. Plus i still get flanked quite a bit.

Whats your method to avoid this? Do you sprint alot? Need tips plz!

EDIT: just noticed you're playing on xbox. nevermiiiiind

@ leviathan,

you are totally right about CoD that it's very frustrating if you don't have a chance (or feels that way)

Crysis 2, you can enjoy without wantig to be the best, you always have a chance here.

About the AI in singleplayer, generaly the AI of the Alien's is stunning, apart from the sometimes bad patfinding.
Sometimes, when they patrol next to each other, they have difficulty's beieng aware of each other.
But there are points, i can tell, it's stunning...
I remeber this one, you know i was cloaking around and stuf, and when my energy was down, i decided to hide in a dark corner to recharge.
When i recharged, i looked up to jump on the rocks.
What was standing there you think? And before he was not, because otherwise i should never take cover there.
There was an alien standing jus't looking at me, that was what he was doing.
Like, hey dude, what are you planning to do? You look weak.
How long was he standing there? To me it feeled like more than jus't AI.
Gives the aliens personality.
I got this inner trills.

That was the most spectaculair AI programming i had ever seen. (thx to the in your'e face graphics)
And then you have these massive giant aliens, they don't see you directly, but it's like they feel your'e presence and always starting to give you the feeling they hunt you, and here, they really do, because they are fkin dangerous.
They al seem to feel your'e precence, and it make's the game this alien breed believeble.
Sometimes i felt myself hunted, and i wanted to escape, but there's no way.
You can say you have a bad feeling when you play sometimes, but that define's this game. Beiing hunted.

I hope if i rank up difficulty the AI also gets better.
I mean not like they have more armor or something.
In some cases the AI is the best i ever seen, in others, it's a bit average plus some pathfinding problems.
If you see what type of game this is, i forgive those rear accasions.

Are you playing on console or pc? I'm playing on an xbox because my gaming pc broke a month back, and the online on xbox is (although EXTREMELY laggy) working. Not sure about pc or ps3.

you said the lag wasn't bad.... i'm playing on xbox right now and it's pretty bad... do you have any idea of when that's going to go down? I know EA usually doesn't have the greatest servers when games first come out so is it just a waiting game to when the lag drops?

@jared.n.watson I know exactly what you are talking about and i am yet to find a way to avoid all the cross fire, it is just as bad on console as pc from the videos I've seen, I'll get back to you if I figure something out but yeah 95% of the time your getting shot from five different directions no matter what you do.

@CGBish7 Console, yeah the lag has gotten much much much...imagine another 800 much's...worse, I rocked a solid 1 bar all of last night and usually just barely went positive. I think/hope they will address the server connection issue and I've run into several bugs in the game as well, so Crytek will need to do a slight overhaul on some software and EA will have to step up on their end too. But all we can do as gamers is hope EA and Crytek will step up to the plate and deal with the issues.

I can say, there are some lag problems, but most of the time not.
With me the lag seems always to occur on the lighthouse map, and yes, it's on x360.

The lag problems are all discribed here, but yeah, sometimes lag, most of the time it works fine.

Some people say EA games have the worst matchamaking there is, but i think it's the best. Because of the battlefield games.
Crysis 2 has the same matchmaking feel, and i like it, there are still some issues, but i trust they soon will be fixed.

thanks to Halo Reach i prefer this type of matchmaking.

Although these videos did help a little. It's more of you stating your opinion than actually giving tips.

this videos dont teach to use all the advantages of nano suit, even dont show em
i switch cloack and armor every few seconds, always sprint, jump etc. XD
when i see console games with commentary, cod or bfbc2 i can feel that player is on the sofa =)
and everyone else too
pc multyplayer experience looks much harder to me. and when i say "hard" here i dont mean difficulity, i mean how it feels.

Let me clarify something, I do not know everything about this game, I'm am not the best at using all the nanosuit's abilities, I will be the first to tell you I svck AT USING STEALTH. In my videos you see me playing my play style that I use almost every match, and stealth just doesn't factor in. If you are better at some aspect of the game, then post your video, or post a comment on your strategy so people can compare and get the best of both worlds. I am not doing this thread so I can view-whore for my youtube channel I am doing this for people who are just starting out or switching from some other game to Crysis like me. I use these forums to find new strategies so I can improve my game and I figured it would be nice if people looking for advice on this forum didn't have to search for forever to find videos or comments specifically about tips, advice, strategies, and opinions about the gameplay. I get worried when there are beginning to be more post about how I don't use stealth than comments that sound like "when you did this, I would actually do this.." or "when [insert situation] happens to me then I..." I am doing this for the good of the people who use this forum as a tool for their improvement, and I know in my first post I said, "please critique my videos" but damn I didn't want that to be the focus of the whole thread.

@Weibey Hauppauge HD PVR

@MortenCC I didn't mean for that to come across as an attack on you, and I apologize. That was really a rant coming from personal messages I received on Youtube and since I know most of my views come from this forum I figured I'd try and stop it at the source. And when I saw your post mentioning not utilizing all of the suits abilities, I singled you out for stating your opinion and that was unprofessional of me and again I apologize. And actually I should thank you for your post because you're absolutely right about me not using all the suits abilities and I do need to work on that if I want to improve my videos.

=) This videos are really usefull sometimes
Using both modes during the fight gives you a real advantage versus players, witch dont use it.
Ah, also i can advise you to pay attention to another suit features, such as high jumps.
Simple example: you are moving in stealth mode and see two guys, switching to an armor mode and killing one of them, but another deal you some damage. you are hiding behind container, turning everything off to regen some energy, then use stealth and jump on the container to frag another guy.
hope you will get it in your video
also i just subscribed :D
