Multiple Actor and Combat Lag

I'm looking for ways of working with this and perhaps eliminating it. My game runs smoothly even up to 2,500,000K (thanks to the 4gb patch of course). However, whenever I enter an area with a lot of actors, and especially in combat with multiple monsters, and especially outside, I get plenty of lag which makes successful combat tough. Any advice would be great.
