Multiple Factions Vying for Power. Go it alone or side?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 9:06 am

I came across a very interesting description of Fallout 4 on the Gamestop website under features:

  • Freedom and Liberty! - Do whatever you want in a massive open world with hundreds of locations, characters, and quests. Join multiple factions vying for power or go it alone, the choices are all yours.

Side with a faction (possible options: BoS, Enclave, Minutemen and The Institute?) or go it alone?

I always go it alone. More fun that way. My favorite games of New Vegas were when I worked for myself, slowly playing Mr. House, the Legion, and the NCR off each other to my benefit, then screwing them all. Especially now with the ability to recruit settlement residents and build my own settlements, why not set myself up as THE power in the region?

They call you the Lone Survivor for a reason. Those other factions had their chance to fix the Wasteland. Time to watch how the old-school players do it! :disguise:

Hard to say really. Depends on how the story pans out. I'll probably play through the game a couple of times and pick a different faction each game.

BoS always needs good recruits and I need my paladin statues back. Ill side with them if they are a main part of the story.

The only thing I plan on doing is massacring the BoS... :gun: That'll be a blast...

If the Brotherhood of Steel needs my assistance I'll be at their side.

I never pre-emptively make that decision. It really depends on the factions and whether or not I'm buyin' what they're sellin'.

Depends on what character I'm role-playing. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a Brotherhood really devoted fan though; doesn't matter what chapter - I'm a svcker for them. So I'd love to side with them if possible. Otherwise, going it alone sounds good.

Is that bottom part of your post part of the Gamestop description or did you just make that up? I really hope you made that up.

Like putting on power armor and massacring people with a minigun? That's what I used to do for fun in the first two Fallouts.

Not the most riveting role-playing but there was always something satisfying with slaughtering raiders while their friends watch them get cut down.

It appears we had different play-styles, my friend. I preferred sneaking into the building with the raiders, pickpocketing all their ammo and guns off them, going back outside, and then kicking in the door. All I needed then was pistol to inflict slaughter upon them. And it was hilarious. :lmao:

EDIT: Then Ian would shoot me in the back while "helping". :stare:

I find it more interesting to pick the faction that best suits my character than to go it alone and take on the entire wasteland single-handedly.

Bah! A minigun would solve all your problems, including Ian's itchy trigger finger. Sure he'll lose an arm or two, but that's nothing a stimpak couldn't fix.

Speaking of companions, I killed most of the Follower scouts unintentionally at the Cathedral simply because they happened to be in the way of burst fire. Using the minigun was both fun and frustrating at the same time.

I spent SO LONG trying to get Dogmeat through the Master's underground base alive. But the damn dog kept running into laser doors and vaporizing himself.

Anyone who played FO1 knows how hard it was to keep Dogmeat alive. To get to the end and not be able to save him...

I wonder what cruel way Bethesda will kill your dog in FO4?

The PC comes across a shady individual standing beside a stove in Fenway Park, surrounded by what appear to be gears. The player initiates conversation with the hooded figure as Dogmeat growls at him.

Before the PC has a chance to say anything, the shady individual points at Dogmeat and says in a familiar voice, "See that dog?"

The PC looks at Dogmeat, then glances back at the man only to find him pointing a gun at the dog.

"You can kill it."

A loud BANG echoes through Fenway Park. Dogmeat slumps over, pieces of his brains scattered around the ground. The PC is visibly shocked and recoils back in fear.

The shady individual pulls off his hood and reveals himself to be none other than Todd Howard. The PC asks, "Why... why did you kill him?"

Todd formed a devilish smirk. "Because it just works."

Don't get too excited. Probably:

7 SPECIAL Attributes x 15 perks per attribute = 105 Perks (Or as translated into "Marketing Speak" - hundreds.)

That is good enough for me. The description does not mention the modding system; 50 base weapons and over 700 modifications. THAT is a good marketing speak.

Alright good. I was about to say, if it was confirmed the Enclave were a faction I would have palmed my face with a frying pan.
