Multiple Main Quests

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 11:15 am

Since I've only played Oblivion, I'll use it's main quest as an example. This is partially influenced by Fallout.

Let's say after you get the amulet, and you are going through the sewers, a member of the Mythic Dawn comes towards you and starts talking. There are two options.
1) Help him, and help the Mythic Dawn.
2)Kill him, and follow the original MQ.

Not only would this add variation to your gameplay, but would also add more time in wanting to play Skyrim (even though I intended to play it a lot anyway).

Now obviously, this would have an affect on the world in which the game is implemented into. If you go with the good side, good things would happen to the kingdom, and the opposite effect for the evil side.

This is pretty much for the classic Good v Evil feel of classic RPG's.

I would preer a different approach then that because well that means basically at the beggining of the game, you make a choice which decideswhether you go good or eveil.

I would hope it would be more intertwining faction based MQ, such as FNV, that would be coolo. Bu the ES series is about being the good guy and saving the world. so if it was just one path I probably would not mind.

Yeah, I know that TES is all about the good guy, and it's traditional for the game, but just a thought I'm having.

I think I NV style approach would be best, you can do something "evil", "good", or "neutral".

Quotes are for opinions...

I would personally prefer more shades of grey to the black/white options you suggested, but even a good/evil choice is better than no choice at all.

Well I would prefer a New Vegas type faction based MQ, wiht mnultiple paths, but traditionally ES has been about savign teh world and doing the good thing. So

:D you have this ones support of such a concept, however..with Beths run of storylines, following the badguys usually means the END OF THE WORLD as we know it, so I'd enjoy prior to suporting whoever I support, there is a decent questline to go after the *big* finale.

but in this case the world will be destroyed and there will be no world after.

in Oblivion following the MD would get you killed in the end run and a faux paradice, however if we were able to continue to undermine opposition after Dagon comes and roflstomps Cyrodill City, then yeah sure.

Skyrim will most likely allow you to side with the Rebels or Loyalist, after which there might be another faction independant of those two associated with the Dragons, and the opposition to them as well. so thats 4 Potential on paper in theory Main quests.

Sure, choices are good. I want to see what happens if Alduin eats the world. Mehrunes Dagon just wanted to smash it up to improve his acrobatics skill but this guy seems to know what he's doing. I voted that this should have a small effect on the world just to be difficult.

I'd like like to have different ways to do the main quest, all with their pros and cons, and shades of gray instead of black and white.

I don't want Skyrim being released on 12/12/12; I want it on 11/11/11. If you want Bethesda to make more main quests then maybe you should step up to the plate and make them yourself. Either go offer your services to them or wait for mod tools to make a wonderful mod, but don't waste their time on something trivial.

P.S. If you really want to help Alduin devour the world into nothingness then pull the console and type "qqq". Bethesda already made the option to blow up the world in every game.

Perhaps you should go back and read what you just said. Think about the ridiculousness of that post..

Additional MQ paths would be very welcome, though I would not like it as the OP example of choosing at the beginning of the game. Depending on how you finish certain quests, what dialogue options you choose (should there be any in the game) and so forth should alter what path you are headed towards. The effect on the world I voted medium, in that I think there should be tangible changes but nothing overly extreme as, in an open world game like TES, would be really hard to do well and probably take loads of Dev time away from other stuff to accomplish it. Small to medium changes would be nice though. =)

I don't like the good/evil, style of the poll.

Why not an "other"

I'd like to see multiple endings that can equally be seen as good depending on your own moral stand point and able to be philosophically debated.

I think what you mean to say is you don't want it to be Linear, which is of course always a fantastic thing.

I don't really care how linear the MQ is, or even if it's just boring and not fun. The joy of TES has always been the open, fully explorable world.

If I was playing a Falout game, I'd expect more of the MQ because New Vegas convinced me that it's possible.

There's a civil war going on in Skyrim, and I doubt Bethesda would pass up the chance to learn from New Vegas and allow you to pick a side, the people who want to secede and the ones that don't. At least I hope they wouldn't.

I don't know. I don't want another "Warp of the West" happening.

My only real concern with having multiple paths to choose from for the main quest is that Bethesda has made such a rich history in their world where there is so much lore and specific events that have happened, that if they players can now "choose" how the game ends then I fear that will end the lore and things like TIL. If everyone has their own MQ experience then there is no true history to The Elder Scrolls anymore...

I don't know, the one exception I can maybe envision is that maybe they could make the same ending to the Main Storyline, but your choices throughout the game influence how your character reaches the end of the game to experience the final moments of the game even though they will ultimately be the same. (e.g. if you choose "bad/evil" character then you die at the end trying to stop something good from happening, but if you chose "good guy" character then you aide the good guys who destroy the "evil" characters...)

I would rather have one awesome main quest than several "okay" main quests.

I like to have multiple questlines but I think the player for himself should decide whats right or wrong.
I think alot of the mainquest is going to be about the civil war.
Maybe you could choose witch side that should win?
It doesnt have to be a good or bad side, just two sides with different views on life.

But if you choose the "witch" side, is it a good witch or a bad witch?

I wan't the effect on the Kingdom to be medium. Too small and it seems worthless, too large and you think "well this is just too good/evil"
I want a little less than the effects of my choices in Fable 3 (hate looking at the lake I turned into a mine just to make money).

I would love if Bethesda would put cyrodiil in the game aswell , this would push the pc to it's limits , make use of blu-ray and the x360 version would have 2 discs whicjh wouldn't make much difference the main reaon I want this is so you could become crowned emperor at the end of the story , Ah, it was good to get that out , I can always dream anyway.
