Multiple spells without switching?

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 7:30 pm

with these new variants on each elemental attack such as the "land mine" style frost spell, and the newly seen area fire attack, will we be able to cast multiple spells with one hand by equipping only the element type?

for instance, instead of equipping a fireball, or the area fire attack in one hand... can we now equip FIRE in one hand, and be able to cast all types of fire spells without having to go through menus to change it? I haven't heard anything on this topic...

It seems like it. Hold the button and the spell turns into a "flamethrower" effect. Tap it and it just casts it as a projectile. Perhaps it casts it as a cheaper "touch" spell if you're in melee range.

There are issues related to this, such as damage scaling, AOE scaling, etc that we don't know how they will address.

You need to reread his post. You didn't understand.

I think they should combine two different spell types like electrical fireballs. That would be so awesome.

It really doesn't MATTER, though, since the difference between casting them and them combining and simply casting the two spells separately at the same time (they don't combine) would just be visual effects. Hell, you can already combine spells like that using the spell making system anyways, you just can't do it on the fly.

no, I understood. I addressed it in the "imo, no." part of my post. I don't think its going to work in the way the op described. I am not even sure if I would want it too or not sense I have had no experience with it. so I added my experience in previous tes games (OB) and my hoping that at the very least we'll still get to use hot buttons to change spells at the least, even if we can't change the spell type (touch, ranged, self, *flamethrower?*)

The thing is, I don't know WHY the OP was asking this question in the first place, nor why you are disputing it. Its already been confirmed that by equipping a single spell that a caster can use that spell multiple ways based on certain contexts.

One of the more alluring changes to the spellcasting in Skyrim is how you can employ spells in different ways. For instance, you could blast enemies with a flame ball from afar, hold the button down to wield the spell like a flame thrower, place a rune on the ground to create an environmental trap that spontaneously combusts when an enemy steps on it, or equip the spell with both hands to deliver high damage fireball attacks that drain your magicka reserves quickly. The shock and frost spells give players an equal amount of flexibility.

lol. I am not disputing whether we will have flame thrower type attacks or that we will be able to choose them.

I was not disputing the *flamethrower*, but the implications you made during your posts that what the OP said was not correct, despite clear evidence that what he mentioned had already been confirmed.

Regardless of that, it will most likely be called "cone" or a "cone effect".

there will be a favorites button that will pause the game and contain any item, weapon or spell or shout you've favorited that you can pick from.
as far as spell effects go a single fire spell can be used in a number of ways, quick fired at distance, placed on the ground as a mine, held down like a flame thrower and cast two handed for a powerful fireball attack. the other elements work the same way. Theres a total of 60 spells in the game from what todd has said. check out the game informer site for more info about spells.

Incorrect, there are 85 or more.

Even if you can't combine spells, magicka students will have no shortage of options, with over 85 spells divided into five schools of magic – destruction, restoration, illusion, alteration, and conjuration.
