Multipliers aren't stacking at level up

Post » Sun Mar 21, 2010 7:53 am

My bonus multipliers aren't adding up to x5 when I level up. They only add up as high as x3 now and I have to level up again to get the remaining x2. It is also removing my unused bonus multipliers when I don't use them on the level up. I took out all mods and it still does this? Can anyone help me get this working right again? thanks

This happens to me as-well, on my mage character. Don't know why. Don't know how to fix.

The multipliers are always calculated correctly.

Most likely you are counting skill increases that occur after you receive the level up message and symbol but before your actually level up. Those are applied to the next level, not the current level.

What do you mean skill increases? I am only looking at the screen it presents you when you have 3 attributes you can apply bonuses to. What is the difference between the attributes you apply bonuses to and skill increases? Why is it removing my bonuses on the very next level up? I am leveling up twice consecutively right now and I see the game removing the bonuses on the next level up.

The bonuses are based on skill increases. The only way to get a +5 bonus to an attribute is to get 10 or more increases in skills governed by that attribute. And those skill increases need to occur between when you get the level up symbols and not when you actually increase level.

Nothing is being removed.

How do people get +5/+5/+5 bonuses if 10 skill point increases results in a level up and any increased skills after the level up icon appears at the bottom of the screen go towards your next level up and not the current one? My head is spinning keeping this straight. When I claim the bonuses on the first level up, on the next consecutive level up which occurs right after the first one because I had bonus points left over, some of the +2 or +3 bonus points are gone. You are saying the game did not take away my bonus? Where did it go? thanks

It's simple but annoying

It takes 10 points in a particular set of skills that a stat is assoiciated with. Strength for example uses Blade, Hand to Hand, and Blunt. To get +5's in a stat you need to raise the skill that is assoiciated with that stat 10 points.

In simple terms raise the minor skills 1st then the majors.

If I were you I wouldn't worry about +5 +5 +5 I'd focus on +5 +5 +1, the +1 being put in the luck stat

I do +5/+5/+1 every time to get my luck maxed ASAP. Actually its more like +2/+2/+1 with my bonuses not stacking. I understand how to get +5 bonuses but not why the bonus disappears on the next level up.

Because it doesn't work logically: it works as intended. Unused bonuses are discarded once you level up. Only skill increases obtained during that level count toward attribute raises at the level up. In short, to get +5/+5/+5 you must get at least 20 minor skills raises and 10 major skill raises *during that level* (ie, before the level up indicator appears). For instance, you get 10 minor skill raises to Alteration, 10 to sneak, 10 to Alchemy and 5 major skill raises each in Armorer and Block. You'll be offered +5's in Will, Agi, Int and Endurance. You can pick only three so 10 of those skill raises are discarded as attribute bonuses and will NOT show up on your following level up.

If you raise Sneak from 5 to 100 during level 1 you'll be offered +5 to Agility at level up. But you'll get no more "credit" towards Agility from those raises in subsequent level ups. This is the only "check" the system provides on raising minor skills.

However skills gained after you see the level up indicator will count toward the following level up. This includes any training points spent after you see the level up indicator. This differs from Morrowind where skill raises gained after seeing the level up indicator did count toward attribute bonuses for that level.

I'm thinking Morrowind which is why I couldn't understand the bonus attribute point system in Oblivion. I get why bonuses disappear and reappear now. thanks
