“Murder! What?”

Has this happened to anyone else?

Ainoa did a mage mission and cleaned out a cave of necromancers. Then she went to Burma sold her loot, upgraded her bow, and got a blessing at the chapel and was righteous at that time. Met with and received mission from the countess. Went to mage college created a spell, spell bound her new bow, and made a bunch of potions. Received rescue mission from Travor, adjusted her inventory and headed to ruins. She fast tracked to nearest found on map and walked cross country. Was attacked by two Fire Antiochs she killed one ran like hell from the other. Was attacked by two wolves, a bear, and a hog and killed them. Passing the shrine of Talus she stopped for a blessing and he called her a murderer and no blessing. It was time to level up so she stopped by Ill Omen Inn meeting a forester outside who in first sentence called her a murderer and in the second sentence asked "what can I do for you champion". Checking her stats I was surprised to find 1 point infamy and a 1000 septum reward. Since the blessing at the chapel Ainoa was unarmed (she is always unarmed in town to avoid any misunderstandings) until she started to walk towards the ruins and met no one along the way. After helping Martin solve the Oblivion Crisis and she became champion (not bad for a girl just barely out of her teens) she slept for the first time in awhile and was visited by the BB. I checked her stats at that time 0 infamy and no bounty? She has passed many guards and no arrests etc. I don’t know if this is a post main mission glitch or what? The only thing that comes to mind is a note I took off a dead necromancer in the cave that asks anyone finding it to bring it to Azura’s shrine. She still has it. Could this be the problem?

Welcome to the forums.

Somewhere along the line your character killed a non-hostile NPC to get a murder on the stats and a bounty. Can you recall any time when your character might have accidently killed a non-hostile NPC?

There are several things that can register as unintentional "murder" in the game. Accidentally killing a non-hostile person (as when accidentally hitting them instead of an enemy you're both fighting) counts as "murder."

Sometimes NPCs have scripts where they're supposed to talk to you, and then turn hostile; if you kill them before this happens, it's "murder." This can happen with Seridur in the "Virtuous Blood" quest.

You can also get a murder count by killing one of the Orc Adventurers who randomly appear in dungeons.

The "Azura's Shrine" note didn't come from a necromancer. You got it from Ghola gro-Muzgol, one of the vampires in Gutted Mine, during Azura's daedric quest.

As I showed in the story there was no fighting NPCs from her last rightous blessing at all. The last fighting of any kind was in the necromancer cavern and she went to two towns and was blessed in the chapel after with no problems. Only the antiochs, bear, wolves and hog were envolved in any kind of fight over two (of her) days later. And your right that is where I got the note, just didn't notice it until I found this murder thing.

Ok chain of events: finished last mission with Martin. Don't want to post spoilers but all who've done this know how quixotic it gets if there was an accident there why show up two towns later and get a rightous blessing. The BB showed up after that battle but no infamy or reward. I checked because in previous caractors yes I've done my share of colateral damage and paid the price the minute I should up near a guard. So is this one a glich and it was delayed for a while before showing up? That's why I'm asking if anyone else has seen this.

The Dark Brotherhood showed up the next time you slept after the "murder." That doesn't tell us exactly when the "murder" happened.

I'm not sure I know what you mean by a "righteous blessing." Are you doing the Knights of the Nine? (The wayshrines' handling of infamy changes depending on whether you've started that quest line.)

Forgive my wording I never get names and quotes right. I'm only on my fourth charactor play through with oblivion and after over 2000hrs in skyrim it's going to take me awhile to get things right in oblivion.(can't tell i'm a big tes fan). I thought that if you commited a crime that you couldn't get a blessing in the chapels and any guard you meet will arrest you if you've a bounty. In skyrim the crime is only to the area you were in when you did the crime but here it seems to be everywhere. And yes I've done the NoN twice but not doing it this time because it dosen't fit this charactor at all.

Just a note this is my first time joining a tes forum and only because this one dosen't go for the throat for every little slip. And there are a lot of people here that take RP as seriously(tongue in cheek) as I do. I've spent alot of time in skyrim and still never finished every quest or found everything and I'm looking forward to the same thing in oblivion.

Thank you for your replies.

The BB showed up after that battle but no infamy or reward. If there was a murder it happened during the battle between Burma big gate and martins finale. And is it normal in oblivion to be able to go a few days (including sleep times)without infamy or bounty showing up. The thing I'm trying to understand is I went straight to Burma from the cavern spent time shopping and buying a house and getting the amulet mission from the countess then fast traveled to and spent two days in the Imperial city including one sleep time, with no problems getting the blessing(at Burma chaple) or with any of the guards in either city. The cavern mission was getting the info about dark crystals for the mageguild. Thanks for your reply.
