Music and Musicians

Post » Fri May 28, 2010 3:20 pm

Music and festivals are big parts of Nordic culture. I know the Nords are not the same as Nordic peoples in our world, but they are closely based on them. Do you want to see music in the game? I'm not talking about the ambient music that is always there in every game, but seeing people playing music, and perhaps playing it yourself (instruments, and perhaps a skill).

What do you think? do you want to see (hear) ? and in what capacity?

You will be able to play music yourself in addition to the above choice.

Well considering there is (I think in Winterhold, but that might just be the Ysmir Collective and College of Winterhold) a bard college, there will definately be minstrels and songs galore. The only question is whether you will be able to participate.

I doubt they would use development time to add something like this in the game, unless it has big effect in the story.
They talked about adding festivals in Oblivion first in the game and then as DLC. Neither happened.

I wouldn't mind picking up a lute myself and having my character auto play while I walk around ^_^

Reminds me of MW, where you had lutes and drums in various taverns. But you couldn't use them even when you picked them up. :violin:

Wouldn't mind an easteregg where a one in a lifetime character shows up playing or humming "Puff the magic dragon" :P

Of course. That musics gotta be coming from somewhere right?

To be honest I would like it if there was only area centric music. Like you only hear music if musicians are near by, or for big battles (not fighting a mudcrab) and climixes and such. I think the whole music system needs to be revamped.

* Soothy music like now for wilderness exploration. I just love this in OB.
* Dungeon music like now for dungeons.
* City music for cities.
* Area centric music for cities.
* Combat music.

And the ability to turn on or off anything you want. Combat music would be the first to go for me. Then I'd have to choose between city music and area centric city music. I'd probably not use area centric if that meant a single lute playing in mono for spatial information. Not sure. Depends how it turned out. Maybe if combined with some really good sounding city sounds it would work better.

I believe Bard Songs were something that was going to be in DF. I very much expect something...not sure what, but I feel they will do something with Bards.

AH! The pleasure of walking into a Nord tavern with a few fights on the doorstep, a couple of drinking contests at tables and the bar, mead flying around, Nord vomit coating your nice leather boots and an band of nords singing and playing an Ireland inspired tune.

But even without the pre mentioned musicians in taverns would be a welcome addition and would really improve the atmosphere in inns and taverns.

I bet you’ll see bards and buskers.

It would be awesome to play music but, unless they add some kind of a “Lute Hero” minigame, I don’t see how.

be able to play music as a skill and the above choice.

YES
music is a morale boost in the least, and sometimes may help your concentration [willpower]
Also it would effect personality.
as an ability to statbuff anyone within earshot of your instrument.
the drum is one of the oldest musical instruments and it was used for all kinds of purposes on the battlefield.
it gave signals, it emboldened the men, and was a fear tactic to the enemy.

also the modability is building in my mind. good idea.

I think the Nehrim: At Fate's Edge mod for Oblivion handled Bards very well. You would run through a street and they would be sitting down playing their lute, little plate of gold next to him. Just really nice addition to the role-playing.

It was certainly possible in Oblivion and should have been implemented. I would like to see ambient musicians in Skyrim. But I absolutely REFUSE to play as a Bard. Bard is defined as a support class, how do you expect to play it without a party?

If they flesh it out properly that is. The Arcane University in Cyrodiil also sounds great, but in the end it wasn't anything impressive.

Just keep in mind that when the going gets tough, the bard goes drinking...
Naah, most of you are probably too young for that one ;)

Like oblivion but with added tavern music. They did this in fallout with radios, it shouldn′t be hard to place some bards here and there playing their lute... :violin:

I think it would be nice if there were minstrels, bards, and even orators in game. Might be nice to hear of my exploits through song while I'm playing.

I'll see your running bard, and raise you http://www.zelnio.org/2010/02/01/musical-muppet-monday-22-julie-andrews-yodel/ :poke: :)

Ya, that was under the other category. Common! the game's going to be in the mountains..and it's the Muppets

Oh, and some scary looking NPC asking for more cowbell in a band  :)
