Music Comparison (with links to music)

Ok, not really a comparison but a list of some of the songs in Fallout 3. You can make your own comparisons, but I'm just for reminiscing :)

And last, but not least, Louis Armstrong. They must have paid quite a license fee for this one.

I have to admit, I would never have listened, or attempted to locate songs from that era, if it weren't for Fallout 3 (and Bioshock).

I feel like there's fewer songs in NV than 3. I'm already kinda sick of that johnny guitar song

so far i'm liking the new tunes. i'm the type who'll only listen to them as i swagger into some dive bar anyhow, i'm not like to turn the radio on myself, so i'm yet to grow really sick of them. overall i think this collection of songs is more enjoyable musically than those from fallout 3.

The radio music is a lot better than Fallout 3's - But Fallout New Vegas's back round music... It's amazing. It reminds so much of Fallout 2, and how I used to always crave the old Fallout 2 soundtrack while playing Fallout 3. Great work Obisidian.

I count 48 songs in the radio folder for NV, although I agree I seem to always hear the same few being played in game.
I like the selection in NV just fine. especially the blues/jazz titles.

i... i didnt know there were that many songs in fallout. i mean, i never complained about the amount of songs(you know who you are), but i never knew there were so many. it felt more like 3. certainly more variety that you would here on the radio today.

i heard they had 48 in this game but ive only heard 7-10 eather its a hidden bug not letting all the songs play or they unlock as you complete the main quest.

Perhaps songs get "unlocked" as you progress in the game?

if the radio is getting that boring listen to black mountain. its so funny. "WHY DO I TRY! THE DUM DUMS NEVER UNDERSTAND!" "dont worry tabitha im sure the dum dums understand... dont fear the battle cattle respect the battle cattle"

also "are you tired of being hunted by humans... are you tired of killing a few dum dums, then having the rest over react and try to kill you. are you tired of being hunted by 2headbear men and dumdums riding battle cattle shooting you with pew pews. then come to blackmountain" insert huge disclaimer here)

There are 48 songs in New Vegas. There are not 48 songs on Mojave Music Radio/New Vegas Radio/Black Mountain Radio (all of which use the same song selection). The majority of the other songs are jazz/blues/classical pieces - I'm assuming they are used in the casinos and maybe elsewhere. There are only a dozen or so tracks on the actual radio stations.

I'm trying to figure out a song on the Mojave Radio Station. It's a woman, sounds like an older country song, "Hoping I can win back your love," and "I'm so blue without you," are some lyrics.
Can anyone identify the song?

Umm Wonderful Word was never an official Fallout song. It was never officially in the game. Maybe a mod, but not officially paid for license and everything.

@Jango http://lmgtfy.com/?q=I%27m+so+blue+new+vegas

But really, here is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sm3jq1Cqphw

Dunno what the other one is

maybe you should have actually TRIED googling that before you just started being a smarta$$?

many of the songs are unfindable using google, yahoo... or any other search engines

i would assume because they were created specifically for the game and aren't actually vintage

want an example? search for fallout new vegas goin' under on youtube, and notice how nobody seems to know who the artist is

if you're going to take the time to be a smarta$$, you may want to take the time to add more "smart" than A$$

Personally, I think Let's Go Sunning was the best song. It had that feel that it could be really optomistic when you're being a good person, but has it's own dark aura when you've got a shotgun point blank to the face with the bloody mess perk :)

I just did a bunch of research and found as much as I could about all the "unknown" songs, since several of my favorites are in that set ("Goin' Under" and "I'm Movin' Out"). They're all licensed from APM music, which is a production music licensing company in Hollywood that caters to the movie & tv industry (and games, apparently). They have original music written for them and old song catalogs that they snap up inexpensively and then license for movies.

Goin' Under was written by prolific country songwriters Wayne Perry and Tommy Smith, but I couldn't find the artist name. And it's not on any album you can get from normal sources like Amazon or iTunes. I would guess it's some 1970's country song that never did well and was purchased for licensing by APM. APM says it's "circa 1952" but since Wayne Perry was 2 years old in 1952 I'm thinking it's a little newer and is just in the style of classic country.

I'm Movin' Out is by the Roues Brothers, with vocal by Billy Roues. Again, only available from APM for licensing purposes, though there is a live version of the Roues Brothers playing it on YouTube.

I'm So Blue is by Katie Thompson and Martyn Laight, with vocal by Katie. Only available from APM for licensing.

Lone Star is composed by Tony Marcus, performed by the Lost Weekend Western Swing Band, lead vocal by Tony Marcus. Specially recorded for Sonoton for licensing purposes, and cross-licensed to APM

Where Have You Been All My Life was written by amazingly prolific songwriters Hal David and John Cavasas, and is available on a compilation CD called Singers and Swingers. It can be bought from Amazon MP3. I haven't checked iTunes yet. No artist info. I'm guessing it was written for some movie or something back in the 50's or 60's.

I've added this stuff to the Fallout wiki on wikia.

thank you, i noticed during the credits that many of the songs are left out and just referred to as "additional music provided by APM"

that isn't really good news for those of us who really want those songs who don't have sophisticated computer equipment though

it wasn't a joke, that guy was trying to belittle a user for not knowing "how to use google"

all the while, he apparantly was the one that didn't know how to use google

maybe you like to pull the same kind of childish bullying crap on the internet and that's why you're trying to defend someone who was clearly being mean for no reason, and in the wrong

might i suggest IMDB as a new place for you to post? it's full of people like that

As it turns out, all the songs are unencrypted 256kbit MP3's, and are sitting in this folder:

[steam folder]\steamapps\common\fallout new vegas\data\sound\songs

So if you just want the songs to play on your mp3 player or computer, there they are. You may want to add some more metadata using your favorite media player (Windows Media Player or Zune will work), like a title and an artist for the ones where we know the artist. Or just bulk-edit the album property to "Fallout New Vegas Soundtrack" and Bob's your uncle.

This is all assuming you have the PC version. Obviously this may not be true for the XBox or PS3 versions, but maybe the songs are sitting on the disc somewhere. I've never tried to read files off an XBox disc.

Woah dude calm down it was just a joke I didn't mean anything like that. If you didn't notice I gave him the link for the song right under it. How did I not know how to use Google???? I found the whole soundtrack for the game online using it....how exactly do I not know how to use it????

yeah, i only have the ps3 version sadly. i'm not sure whether it's worth 60 bucks to me to buy another copy of the PC version just to get the songs.
