Music Disappointment

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 10:40 am

LESS development? Are you serious?

Skyrim's soundtrack is vastly larger than the previous titles, and just as varied. Try looking up "Unbroken Road", "Streets of Whiterun", "Sovngarde", "Standing Stones" and I could go on and on. The soundtrack is fantastic. It may not be Guild Wars or Neverwinter Nights, but it isn't supposed to be. Skyrim's OST holds its own very well.

You're entitled to your opinion and I respect that, but saying less development went into it than previous titles is... incorrect.

so many ignorant posters on here. I dont know how anyone can play this game and think "lazy devs"

Ask yourself this question.

Can u seriously remember Skyrim's music compared to say WOW's? Sorry but wow's musical score is breathtaking compared to Skyrim's. I don't even find it remotely warming.

I like the sound track. I do not see anything wrong with it.

Is this thread serious? Skyrim has the best soundtrack of all the TES games, and it's among the best I've seen in a game (and I'm a soundtrack nut). In my opinion, it's the only one with a main theme capable of rivaling Daggerfall.

The only disappointment is not being able to easily add your own tracks.

Yeah, Blizzard does good trailer music but that's about it. Even then their trailer music wasn't as good as "Dragonborn" from Skyrim's gameplay trailer.

I hated Obliv's music at first too, because Morrowind was my first game and all the tracks were special to me.

When the nostalgia goggles come off you'll enjoy the Skyrim tracks on their own merits.

You like past products huh? You do realize that one of the tracks is a direct rip from Morrowind and remastered? You need to take the cotton out of your ears and listen a bit closer I think, because this is one of the best video game soundtracks ever created.

I knew i'd heard that track in morrowind! thanks for confirming it. they added quite a few features from morrowind, like those goofy hats, and the companions building and those sphere metal monsters, all those dwarven relics. It's awesome :)

One of the few good things?? I didn't play other elder scrolls, so that's where you might be coming from, but otherwise I don't understand. There is so much content in this game and most of it works really good. Unlike other games coming out today.

What? You're completely, utterly wrong.

Skyrim's soundtrack is one of the finest aspects of the game.

I am glad they put the Morrowind music in. Made me remember those adventuring days on that Dumner Isle. I think the audio is excellent. I was watching my brother play and heard something come up behind him and attack.

What's from Morrowind?

I love "The City Gates"
"Distant Horizons"
"Ancient Stones"
I also love the one that plays in Sovngarde
And many others...

I think the music is 10/10.

Yes... I can. Easily.

Sorry but wow's musical score is breathtaking compared to Skyrim's.

WoW all sounds extremely generic to me, with the exception of a select few tracks like Stormwind.

For me all the music sounded the same.

What I mean is the same to some of the other games. None of it was really unique to Skyrim. I kept hearing pieces of the other games in Skyrim.

You're not supposed to notice the music. It's a good thing you don't. That means that the atmosphere is hitting you subconsciously, which is exactly what music in games/movies is supposed to do.

I'm almost 100 hours into the game, and I still regularly find myself getting completely blown away by how great the music is. IMO, it's one of the best game soundtracks I've ever heard.

Hans Zimmer is an over-rated piece of garbage. :P

And I'm not so sure that he would.

Times Magazine ranked him in the 40s for their Top 100 Living Geniuses. I do agree that his works are much more suited to Hollywood action flicks than an Elder Scrolls game. I don't want to be wandering through the wilderness, then suddenly enter combat with a wolf and get blasted out of my chair by the Inception tuba.
