Times Magazine ranked him in the 40s for their Top 100 Living Geniuses. I do agree that his works are much more suited to Hollywood action flicks than an Elder Scrolls game. I don't want to be wandering through the wilderness, then suddenly enter combat with a wolf and get blasted out of my chair by the Inception tuba.
BWAH BWAAAAAAH. BWAH BWAAAAAAH.
BWAH BWAAAAAAH. BWAH BWAAAAAAH.
Times Magazine. Did I not just use the words "over-rated"? Half the music "written" by Zimmer isn't even by him. His students write a lot of his music, and then it goes under his name for the movies.
Edit: When I say that, I don't mean he's stealing his student's stuff. Just that it's a collaborative effort. When you see "Hans Zimmer" in the credits, it's usually Hans Zimmer and one or more other persons.
Not that "his" stuff is bad, or anything. It's great music, just not any more special than the stuff the next Hollywood composer writes, like Danny Elfman or Michael Giacchino or John Williams.
