A Music Mod which bypasses Oblivions music system. (And more

Well, as you all know, Oblivion has its fair share of issues with the game engine. By no means does this create a bad game, just creates some hiccups along the way that are either explainable or just plainly make no sense at all. The latter of which I have came across on my most recent re-installation of the game. For the sanity of myself, I have chosen to no longer pursue the issue that has fallen into the category of "just plainly making no sense at all." The issue of which if you are wondering has simply to do with Oblivions' music system not working at all. Seems simple enough eh?

You figure maybe a corrupt Sounds.bsa, maybe a codec issue, or a problem during the installation of Oblivion rendering music unable to be heard. Nope.

What you don't figure is that the "inaudible music" will cause you headaches that could burst a brain vessel. This "inaudible music" will cause your keyboard and mouse to freeze exactly 3 minutes into the game each time you load. Whether that be in the main menu, in-game, or right after you have finished creating your character in the chargen! There is no mercy here, and also no CTD (odd?) just a game that seems to be running as it should. I can still get attacked, I can still hear the chirping, and I can still hear the adoring fans footsteps running behind me. What I cannot still is my brain. It is wondering why the mouse and keyboard freeze at the same interval after a simple re-installation. It is something that has been flushed out and no longer pondered upon. You can see the extent here (and there were more on various forums, but here is one :) ) http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1075344&st=20

The fix you ask? Disabling music in Oblivion.ini.

The first part of question 1, is a shout out to someone, somewhere who knows the answer! Someone who knows the answer to it all!

My question: 1a. How can I possibly get music again?

1b. Is there a mod for Oblivion that somehow bypasses the Oblivion music system, meaning it could still run with bMusicEnabled=0 in Oblivion.ini

2. What is your favorite LOD replacer? I find the Qarl Normals to be quite horrendous looking at dawn/dusk with the black pixelated boxes all over the place. I have found: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27023 . (PK LandscapeLOD Color) to be good for color maps. For normal maps I am still looking for something nice that doesn't have those awful black compression boxes and is 1024 or above, preferably 2048.

If there is an answer for me to hear some kind of synchronized (or not) music in-game whilst having music disabled in the Oblivion.ini I would be verrrrry grateful. It is getting rather quiet at times..... and the looping wind is a bit of a nuisance.

I saw that earlier, but didn't download it to see that it required Enhanced Music Control which *should* solve my problem since it "effectively removes control of Oblivion's music from the game's own code and places it solely in the hands of the plugin. None of the game's functions are used to play the music. A DirectShow powered player within the plugin renders the music in it's place."

Well, I decided to try it and music still ceases to play. Game will freeze with just Enhanced Music Control.dll in obse plugins. Whenever trying to use Better Music System, I could see in the console that it was constantly trying to play music out of the Empty folder which originally had a silence.mp3 in it, I added one of the Oblivion explore .mp3's and still nothing. This is really starting to baffle me why I can't get music in just this one game in no way, shape, or form.

Major breakthrough. Been trying to get my music working for MONTHS! Uninstalled WMP12 did the trick, corrupted Franhofer MPEG Layer-3 Codec as I suspected which I deleted in the registry but apparently it was still associated with WMP12.

Win7, you have failed me in only once instance so far. Making it almost impossible to un-install WMP12!

THANK GOD MUSIC IN OBLIVION! :shocking:

So this is a default Win7 codec that is part of the installation of the OS?
I've not had any troubles with music on Win7 Pro yet. Could you not play music ever, or was it
a bug that would cause issues periodically?
