I've searched endlessly for the solution to m problem. I'm running the game from steam, and will do a new reinstall, but am afraid that it won't work. Can anyone suggest anything to try? I only have the Unofficial patch running, No music at all, and framerate gets stuttery and slow about 5-10 minutes of playing.

Post a DXDiag:

-for XP, open the Start menu, select Run, then type DXDiag and press enter.

-for Vista/ 7, use the search function instead, but do the same as above.

Gives a fair bit of info on just what you have in your system, both hardware, and software, plus, driver dates.

Are you running any of the asus background apps?

No, but I think I know what the problem is. The newest Beta drivers from Nvidia. I got them for Dragon Age 2 (Which didn't fix anything) and after that things went downhill with only Oblivion. Wish I could keep these Beta drivers and have Oblivion run fine. Guess that won't happen though.

Try going to a stable driver version and trying again. Also, make sure you uninstall the drivers correctly:

-Boot into safe mode
-Uninstall drivers
-Run a driver cleaner utility to get rid of everything they left behind
-Reboot into safe mode, install new drivers
-Reboot into normal mode, reconfigure driver profiles

Also, try going into the Oblivion.INI, finding this entry:

bMusicEnabled=1

and change the 1 to a 0. This will turn off the music in the game altogether, which can seriously reduce lag for people who don't have dedicated sound hardware.

Well I reinstalled the Video Drivers. I don't understand how chanigng that .ini file will help. First off, I don't have any problems in any other games, I can do Battlefield Bad Company 2 at Max 1080p 32xCsaa and maintain 60 fps+, no sound issues, runs flawless. I also don't understand how this could of happened all of sudden. I'm sorry if I sound rude, but enough is enough, I've tried EVERYTHING!

The reason is because the music in this game is known to cause severe lag/stuttering for people who do not have a dedicated sound card. Again, I must insist you post a DXDiag, as we need information that you are not divulging to help you.

Find the "ahead" folder, in there should be a DSFilter folder. Delete it. Nero will still work just fine.

Reboot.

Try the game again.

I don't see it. I'm in mt Program files under Nero, no ahead or DSfilter folder. Ty for the reply.

Nevermind I found the DSFilter folder. I deleted it, rebooted, still no luck.

Try installing the klite basic codec pack, make sure it is set to repair broken codecs, and that FFDShow is set to ignore Oblivion, both audio, and video.

Downloading that pack worked for the music. I'm curious, I just clicked "Next" on everything, and pretty much chose the default values, is this going to mess with the music I listen to or DVD's I watch on my computer?

Nope. Shouldn't mess with anything at all. If you find an app that doesn't want to work anymore though, just reinstall the app. (and then make sure oblivion still works.)

I heard that K Lite Codec Pack has some illegal files within it for RealPlayer and Quicktime, or where they taken out in the most recent version?

First I have heard of it...... I would assume.... (yeah, right..) that since it is so widely distributed, and rather popular.... that is should be legal....
