Music problem.

Post » Sat Jun 11, 2011 8:50 am

Everytime a new song is starting, the game lags for two three seconds. I can fix this by disabling music, but I dont want to play the game without the music.
I have played the game on this computer with this windows with no problem a year ago (yeah, the windows hasnt been reinstalled a long time but I have no problems with it till now) and I just installed it. I wanted to try the new OOO patch and I directly installed it (first the game, after that the latest official, after that the latest UOP and than I installed the OOO patches) and when the game started laging I thought that is because of the OOO. But when I deinstalled and delete everything and began the installation a new, the lag was there every step of the way. Without any patches, only with the official, with UOP also... What can I do?

Sounds like a CODEC problem -- be sure that WMP (windows Media Player) is set as the default .mp3 playback device -- If it already is then try resetting your codecs either by using a codec reset utility or by installing the K-lite codec pack and having it repair broken codecs as part of the install. If another program is set to open .mp3 files (such as I-tunes) they sometimes will attempt to go online and rerieve info about the file before opening them and this will cause the game to stutter while waiting for the file to actually open.

I tried both thing, didnt work.
In one other thread someone said that Oblivion doesnt like non-dedicated sound cards, but I had played the game with the same sound card with no problem...

Some are better than others.....

What exactly did you try? And how's about at least some basic system information?

I tried making WMP the default mp3 player (I am using winamp) and dowloading the latest K-Lite codecs.

The system is Windows 7 professional x 86, Asus P5Q (99% sure about that), Intel Core 2 duo @ 3.0 Ghz, 4 GB DDR3 @ 800MhzA-DATA RAM Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX+.... do I miss something?

Post a DXDiag so we can see your sound hardware.

Oblivion is pretty picky about Onboard sound chipsets, and while mine (when I used it) did not cause stuttering, per-se, it did cause strange freezing problems.

That was mainly what pushed me to buy a dedicated card. Well, that, and I got a pretty good deal on a fairly powerful card.

If it was cause of the sound card, how come I havent any problems the previous time? I have played Oblivion A LOT with this PC and with some other that also hadnt dedicated sound card with no problem...

Go into your sound properties, and make sure sound hardware acceleration is set to None. (in the control panel.)
