Music related crashes and glitches (Windows 7)

I'm having a lot of issues with music now that I've switched to Windows 7. The radio music sometimes stutters, when it is first activated it makes a strange noise too, and clicking the radio on and off a few times too many freezes the game. Sometimes going into combat crashes the game too because it tries to switch to combat music.

And the transitions from combat to regular music are not as smooth as I'm used to from playing the game in Win XP some months ago, and I had the exact same hardware back then.

I have an Creative X-fi XtremeGamer soundcard, and I'm playing on Windows 7 64-bit. Fallout 3 is the Steam GOTY edition. I have a dual core CPU. No ini tweaks of any kind have been made, and I'm not using Creative's Alchemy software for FO3, because it gave me even more glitches.

This all happens on a mod-free installation.

I have the K-Lite codec pack installed, but I've added FO3's exe to the 'do not use in' list of FFDShow.

Audio drivers are up to date.

Should I use Alchemy? If so, with what settings? What else could I do?

What audio settings exactly? The only ingame options I can see is turning the volume higher or lower, that won't do anything useful.

I just realized there is no special options button for the Fallout 3 launcher.
Try going into the sound options of your sound card and limiting the sound to two speakers, as rendering the sound in 5.1 or 7.1 has been proven to be quite a hassle in the Windowns 7 OS.

This is the first result.

I have googled it before. Most of those fixes I've already tried. I guess I'll give 2.1 audio a try, it doesn't really sound like that's the solution to my sound issues in particular (I have no problems with sounds going missing) but I've tried everything else so...

Edit: Nope, didn't work. None of the solutions. :sadvaultboy:


When songs ends it often repeats the last 2 seconds of the song before continueing to the next. And just when it goes to the next song it sometimes freezes the game.
