Music Ripped From Oblivion For Another Game

Post » Sun Sep 26, 2010 10:55 am

Being referred to as Iran's first AAA game, Garshasp is a third-person fantasy action game similar to God of War, but it seems they might not be too honest with their production of the game. In this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhFvMS6nmVU, at 1.34 to 1.36, I swear I can hear a sound ripped straight from Oblivion. It's the noise you hear when you activate an Ayleid Well I believe. Am I right? Or just imagining things?

It may be a generic sound.

A lot of games companies use the same sound libraries for sounds effects. You dont notice it as much nowadays when comapnies can make more of their own sounds....but in the 90's era gaming you would frequently hear the same sounds between games and even TV.

It may just be that the sound of an alyied well is from a sound library that bethesda got a lisence to use and this new game also uses the same library.

You have a good ear my friend, as it does sound like that and when you cast certain spells it makes that noise as well.

Might be generic or public domain. I played Zoo Tycoon as a kid and I've heard the animal sounds from that game in about 10 other games and movies

What da mage said about sound libraries. You can hear sounds from games in other games and even in commercials and stuff. Good find tho, just the same. :)

The music for some of the videos for The Sims also uses music from Command & Conquer Generals (mostly GLA tunes).

Such as...

I believe the composed music (such as oblivion's theme song) is copyrighted and licensed under their respective owners, whether it would be the music artist or the game company that had that artist create the music. In this case, a person using the music would need direct consent from the license owner, and it would not be found generally in some generic sound libraries. Any company found using the music would be held highly suspect of theft if they didn't have such consent. Generic sounds though can be found easily in many places in generic libraries.

EA owns both of these game titles, so I'm sot surprised the music used is the same/similar. But if I heard oblivion's or morrowind's theme music used in a game, I'd be crying foul pretty quickly, haha. I don't see Zenimax allowing another company to use it's theme music or even in game music as they absolutely distinguish the game. I mean when you hear morrowind's theme music there is no question what you are hearing and think of.

I'm going with this. Random example, but in Guitar Hero 3, European Invasion, when the knight cuts off the metal dragon's head, it makes the Morrowind electric spell noise. And just about every door in the world is the same as TES.

!!!!!

And I thought I was the only noticing this scream in many different movies.

:goodjob:

Edit: Ontopic;

It might not seem that remarkable for a ragtag group of friends to come up with a computer game in a dusty back office.

But the Iranian engineering students, programmers and fantasy animators who created "Garshasp, the Monster Slayer"

That's very interesting, considering the visuals and animations even though the game is very similar to the God of War series. Not sure if they picked that particular sound from a sound library or just stole it, but it's no biggie.

A sound I hear quite a bit is the background music in Freelancer's Omega sectors (Law & Order uses it a lot). You can listen to a variation http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMEwLgT-OWY&feature=related.

There are tons of sound effect libraries. I'm not surprised that several fantasy games use the same sound effects.

I remember reading a while back that some band or something used the "haunted" sound effect from Morrowind.

That thread got mostly the same replies as this one.

This is not music but I sometimes hear a kagouti in Morrowind make a sound just like something I've heard in Duke Nukem 3D from those pig-like enemies.
It's in "Morrowind\Data Files\Sound\Cr\kgout\scrm" (Also some other humorous sounds there not heard in the game).

Taken from a thread in the past games sub forum:
Also, Arena lich == Warcraft 2 dragons == Heretic sabreclaws.

That's because http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/StockSoundEffects the http://www.sound-ideas.com/6000.html library.

It's eaiers and cheaper to buy a stock set of sounds then to make your own. Almost everyone does this, so it's no wonder everythings sounds like something else.
