Jeremy Soule is currently working on (or has completed) the OST for Duke Nukem Forever :)

Why did you think it was bad?

I just think Morrowind's was better despite me hearing and playing Oblivion first. I suppose i just think the main theme should be nice and mythical, not an all out action song. Just my preference though. Should have done something like Dragon age's.

it fit the overall theme of the game, though. Morrowind was very subdued and atmospheric, whereas Oblivion was a lot more bombastic and dramatic. having a theme that doesn't fit the game at all is a dumb idea.

I'd love to see the return of Jeremy Soule with a new TES game.
I've got both Morrowind and Oblivion OST on my machine at work and I'm constantly listening to them.
Both CDs are a masterpiece and they contribute so much for the game atmosphere.
Sometimes, while I work (Software engineer) I can actually envision myself playing, travelling from Seyda Neen to Balmora or just riding to one of the Shrines scattered around Cyrodiil.
I can hardly imagine a new TES game without Soule's strings

I think the audio mastering was terrible in oblivion, but I think Oblivions music captured the world perfectly, I think its the best soundtrack in a game by miles. It takes a lot of patience to get things right with orchestrations especially if you are writing music for a specific genre or medium. Jeremy Soule SHOULD come back and even feature previous tracks like that kynerth track, I woulod be happy if they used the same soundtrack if not I'm gonna mute the soundtrack and play Oblivions through my studio.

I want the composer from Daggerfall back, that music was perfect and set the atmosphere greatly.

Eric Heberling. I want him too. TES3-4 music fits a movie better than a game.

I think the style of Oblivion's music was great, but its implementation in combat was terrible. I should get more dramatic music when I'm fighting off Daedra to get to the Sigil Stone than when a rat sees me. That much should be obvious.

The combat music used in Oblivion I felt was so dramatic it was only fit to be used in a couple of climactic scripted sequences. Something like Oblivion and Morrowind's soundtrack again but with more appropriate combat music would be ideal.

So yeah Jeremy Soule can stay.

I liked Soule's ambient and town music, but I liked Inon Zur (FO3 composer) for his battle music.

Deleted due to the general populace of this forum having a... disappointing level of reading comprehension.

Instead let me say it in the clearest terms possible: Soule and Zur svck at ambient compared to many popular artists/groups that are so good at it they make a living off selling their music directly to people rather than being commissioned to make soundtracks for video games. Spending more money would net a soundtrack the vast majority of players would enjoy more. Even you, and yes even if you disagree.

Well, if it could be like that, I'd say Hans Zimmer.

I can't stand "combat music" in video games. I don't care who the composer is. It feels too much like cheating. I don't want the game to notify me if an enemy is sneaking up behind me.

One of the things World of Warcraft got right was not using horribly cheesy video game combat music. I would love it if TES V did the same.

How about someone good for a change? Video games are just as big as movies now, we should be able to have someone as good as http://www.myspace.com/hollywoodrecords#pm_cmp=mce_con_msm_billboard_album_tron or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpTuBSfa8zU to make the soundtrack! Full live orchestra, 5.1 surround mix, 320kbps mp3's, the works. The two I mentioned were just for example, and for example if Beth made a cyberpunk rpg I'd be hard pressed to believe either of those dudes wouldn't make a soundtrack 10x better than Soule or Zur. I'm sure there's someone equally adept at classical ambient that would blow away anything Soule or Zur made.

I surely hope you're kidding. Not only are those awful choices for artists (especially for the type of game Elder Scrolls is), but think about how much money it'd cost them to get such overpaid/overpriced hacks of an artist? Think of how much they spent just to get Patrick Stewart (don't get me wrong, I love the guy but there could've been more variety for voices if they hired the help of less known people).

Yeah, get a big budget artist to do music that would be wholly inappropriate for this particular genre, then take the sound files and compress them to MP3s. I'm sure the Beth CEO would be all over that like Charlie Sheen on a hoker. While you're there, why don't you throw in some of my suggested artists as well:

AutoTune The News
Cattle Decapitation
GWAR

I loved the music in morrowind. Ive put all of the explore themes on my ipod, and ive put the mp3 files into the oblivion's music folder as well, haha. The first thing ill do when TESV come sout, is put that morrowind music in the TESV music folder.

That was definitely better than Oblivion, and it could compete with Morrowind's imo. I hope for a completely new theme this time though.

Only by your definition. I happen to enjoy adding the mp3's to my game folders so it feels much more bad ass when I'm hacking my way through a cave full of baddies or going through an Oblivion gate. :obliviongate:

I liked Soule's work on Morrowind because it had character and fit the somber aesthetic of Vvardenfell. Oblivion, on the other hand, I felt sounded too generic and pastoral. I would always end up falling asleep while playing because the music was just so limp wristed.

I'd actually be really keen on seeing someone like Jack Wall do a TES soundtrack. For those of you who don't know, he composed the music for Myst III and IV, which at the time, were being heralded as landmarks in gaming scores. He's extremely good at coming up with interesting and memorable melodies and motifs, and he uses a lot of unorthodox techniques and a variety of neat sounding instruments.

I would also like to see NPCs in game playing traditional songs, it would really help to make different provinces more unique.
