Music in ES:V?

Post » Sun Sep 12, 2010 6:21 pm

Deleted due to the general populace of this forum having a... disappointing level of reading comprehension.

Instead let me say it in the clearest terms possible: Soule and Zur svck at ambient compared to many popular artists/groups that are so good at it they make a living off selling their music directly to people rather than being commissioned to make soundtracks for video games. Spending more money would net a soundtrack the vast majority of players would enjoy more. Even you, and yes even if you disagree.

Sorry bud, you don't get to tell me what music I like or how much enjoyment I will receive. I actually like to play the Elder Scrolls without music on, it's much more immersive and helps me to get into the game much more. But I still have the sound files and absolutely love listening to some of the tracks from Morrowind and Oblivion apart from playing the games. It's truly amazing music to me, and yes even if you disagree ;)

Oh and about the live orchestras and 5.1 sound, I do agree with you there. I believe that was on the developers end rather than the composers though, you know with funds and such. Soule even sells better quality soundtracks from the games.

tombofsoldier- if daft punk did compose a soundtrack for a game. OMG. very cool idea. ok not a good idea for TES. You're right, Why not go for it if the budgets there. some games do get great quality soundtracks, tony hawk, GTA come to mind

I remember YELLO did a new soundtrack for the Manga Entertainment vhs release of Space Adventure Cobra dub. I don't like dubs, but the new music made it 10x better than the subsequent subbed release. sound can change the game experience a lot.

Jeremy Soule did the soundtrack for Morrowind and Oblivion, but Beth didn't use him for Fallout as far as I know. Hopefully things didn't go south between them because personally I loved the music in Oblivion. I guess music is one of the things that wouldn't be buzzed about so there's no way to tell, but do you think he will return to do the music for ESV?

Try Howard Shore, James Horner and Nicholas Hooper...there are plenty of others but it really depends on what the game will be like that the composer will be based off of. Jeremy Soule is a good choice but what I want to see is him try to actually put a whole lot of work into it. I mean look what Martin O'Donnell did to Halo: Reach, that was the best video game soundtrack I have ever heard. It's really up to the developers to figure it out but what is important to know is that music is very important factor in any media.

I don't want the game to notify me if an enemy is sneaking up behind me.

How about combat music which only triggers when the pc's weapon is drawn and a target is in their field of vision? I don't think c. music is going to be cut.

Set a game on Masser and Secunda, then get Vangelis to compose the soundtrack. Very simple.

Yeah I'm really into film scores, most of my ipod is movie scores. But those are big names and Bethesda probably wouldn't opt to shell out their salary when they can get Jeremy Soule for much less. It really depends though, I mean Steve Jablonsky (The Island, Transformers, Gears of War) has done video game scores and he's a big deal in Hollywood, same for Ramin Djawadi (Iron Man, Clash of the Titans, Medal of Honor).

Jablonsky is my all time favorite, but he fits more of the epic action type than fantasy exploration music.

This is my idea of amazing exploration/background music http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFLMLHPVhaw

And this is a great track too, a little less relaxing but still would make for good exploration music (the first third at least) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cN3SefT4Ny8

Set a game on Masser and Secunda

Best setting suggestion I've seen on the entirety of these forums.

I would honestly die of glee if Clint Mansell or Marc Streitenfield did the soundtrack for the next Elder Scrolls. They make excellent music.

I want the composer from Daggerfall back, that music was perfect and set the atmosphere greatly.

Apparently he's making sounds for slot machines in Las Vegas now. :P

Lately we’ve been more lenient about TES V topics here but they have unfortunately begun to overrun this forum so we will be cracking down on them again.

  • If you want to discuss features that you would like to see in an upcoming Elder Scrolls game, or expect to see, please use the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1147719-tes-v-ideas-and-suggestions-188/

  • Speculation on when or if such a game will be announced belongs in the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1147858-official-tes-v-speculation-thread-89/.

  • Finally any discussion of future Elder Scrolls games that involve multiplayer of any sort belongs in the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1119156-official-tes-multiplayer-thread/.
