What kind of music do you think will be popular in the next century? Please post links if you find a video or something that shows it :)

Nothing but techno, trance, and industrial; obviously.

Orchestral music gaining popularity again with the decline of small bands.

The only thing that I see happening are new sounds being explored more, catching on in popularity, the creation of new genres, the rise and fall of varying genres in the mainstream (radio, music television, etc.) and the like. Music that exists now won't go away; new forms will simply be added to it.

Some genres will disappear. Namely because some are very similiar and will eventually merge.

Dull rock bands with vacuous songs especially designed to work on massive festival stages are unfathomably popular at the moment, and every year the list of festivals grows.

I don't really know that it will change all that much. I just hope it won't be the same tripe that is played on the radio here now. I wouldn't want to subject future generations to the American Idol crap that is all over the place today.

In general, less grandiose and scale. Less... melodic. But louder, and quicker. Fits theory of increased data consumption of people (as time progresses), loud and quick sounds. At the same time I noticed a reduction in the amount of people it takes to make music. A more human element as it progresses to modern times. Ha ha... trends.

Edit
Depending on how humans evolve or don't I can see two distinct possibilities. Assuming this trend continues.

Edit
I also notice the songs become less dark and grim, and happier. Ha Ha... social pacification.

Edit
Then there was Techno... which was one of the oddballs in there. lol

havent heard of them *but will look out for them* (were they formed before 2000 but have put stuff out since, because I said I don't like any thing post 2000 but I did not mean album wise but instead bands that were formed after 2000)

I have listened to a number of post 2000 rock bands but they are all trying to hard to match classic rock awesomness and they put too many lyrics and not enough pauses to take in the instramental. imo. StoneTemplePilots was like a rapid fire of verbal diahrea

An unavoidable remark is that extrapolations from videos like these will unlikely be biased by the video maker's bias in song choices.

Very valid point. I said in general, but if I was going to get serious this would be a task where I break open some books, note pads, web pages, and perhaps if I could get them journal articles. Damn it... now I DO want to do this. Or at least see what conclusions dedicated researches came to. Damn you Veeno!!!

Would also need to account for the fact that even when new styles are indented we have to account for the styles not simply dieing off. It all sort of co-exists, there could be many reasons for this on a biological level.

Maybe you just haven't looked hard enough. Regardless of the fact that you may not like this style, I'm pretty sure you didn't stumble upon something like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSJ-8EJUKSE.

I can't help it sometimes. Or is it all the time? I can't even tell when it triggers, but sometimes brain just fires off. Anyways on a semi-random tangent that's a really good song.

Music has fragmented into so many different niches/scenes that I think it's pretty much impossible to make a general overview these days. The most reasonable thing I guess would be to focus on pop/top-40 music.

that was okay, I liked the instramental but it got meh once the lyrics kicked in. but then again I never like any thing from hearing it just once, way back when I used to hate pink floyd and now my mom is totally weired out to hear that I got really into them in the past few years.

Correction, I have heard one song that I like that is post 2000. throwing shapes; dirty vegas. they're club music but I like the one song.

Should make less subjectless sentences. Are confusing. Anyway, should listen to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonic_Youth. Are good.
