Musical Instruments

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 4:13 pm

We know they are in the game, the trailer confirmed as much. I'm wondering if we will be able to play one and if the type of instrument varies too. I for one would love to sit down in the bar with a full crowd and just play some tunes on a violin. Furthermore it would be amazing if the NPC's reacted to the playing by dancing, or by listening. It's most likely wishful thinking though, I hope at the very least someone can mod that into the game. What do you guys think? Waste of resources and time, or a desirable addition?

Fantastic Idea. I would love to play tunes with a lute and see people dance to it.

And if you play your instrument well enough, the barmaid starts singing beautiful songs.

I would love it. I've been seriously thinking of playing a bard as my first character in Skyrim, and this would ice the cake.

That would be cool, but I can see that taking a lot of time and effort to implement. At the very least they could add in preprogrammed music and the more your character plays the instrument the better he gets. Sort of like the skill system in Sims 2. The types of music change based on your skill rating.

If not, there's always mods. The animations are already there.

I'd rather take the guy's lute and smash his face in with it. That might be doable.

This isn't Fable, you don't need to play Lute Hero in the Provence of Skyrim.

Hey, add a Khajiit dialect to this and it would be a great M'aiq quote.

You don't need to be a master farmer, miner, or cook either, yet these things are in the game.

Yes but those things are far more important for realism than playing a Lute.

It's funny having a bard class when there are no instruments to play.

Why? What do they add to the game besides immersion and to pass time? You can play a lute and make money depending on your skill.

I don't see how any of those things are more important than each other. You're still doing a task normally relegated only to NPC's for money and/or stuff for crafting. What's more awesome? Playing a lute in front of a full tavern and getting paid? Or chopping logs for firewood/money?

Edit* PLUS there is a freaking bards college in Skyrim. I think it's safe to say role-playing a bard is going to certainly be possible in this game.

Yeah! And they can code it to doing good or bad depending on your ability to press A, X and Y in a pa-rappa style environment! Oh wait, I think somebody http://lionhead.com/Fable/FableIII/.

Can we stop comparing and putting down ideas for Skyrim because of Fable? They didn't pioneer this crap. Besides, your own argument works against you. Fable also had woodcutting and smithing. Guess what, so does Skyrim!

Yeah honestly...I didn't say it was a revolutionary idea only that it would be a cool addition to the game. I knew fable used that mechanic before making this thread, but my intention was not to say lets make Skyrim more like Fable.

I would love to be able to play musical instruments. If Skyrim gave me a flute I would be happy.

I'm just saying, why does trying to make a game where you can play as an elf, orc or beast person have to be so realistic? I play games like this to ESCAPE reality, so I would strongly prefer them to work on creating incredible dragon fights, awesome dungeons, intelligent AI, a smooth barter system, grade A combat, shiny magic, and a stylish, exciting system dedicated to assassination and robbery.

When you put combat, quests and graphics into the arena as the blue team against the yellow team's jobs, actual windows and being able to play the lute, well, I'm just happy I bet on the blue team.

EDIT: I accidentally my sentence structure.

Yes!
I can't explain you how many times I wanted to light a pipe (could be also a nice addition to TES), and play an instrument while riding a horse slowly and watching the landscape.
Playing musical instruments, whether it had affect on gameplay or not (ie. someone wants it to help him with his bard style play witch I would also like to give it a shoot), I think this should be implemented.
