muskets

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 12:25 am

That would not make sense after all the destruction of the Oblivion crysis, the fall of one of the more advanced nations (Morrowind) and the loss of many Dwemer artifacts/technology, not to mention the fact that there is political instability, civil wars, and the empire is almost disintegrating? If anything, technology and magic will have regressed in this period, trade will have decreased along with travelling and the exchange of ideas around the world. This is pretty much the Tamriel equivalent of the Dark Ages that started around/when Rome collapsed.

Wars are normally times when that kind of technology rapidly advances. As for muskets being in the Elder Scrolls series, I think it's a great idea for future series. I just don't see it for Skyrim

No, muskets aren't effective enough to weed out every kook and dingbat that keeps suggesting this.

Why not? The setting (dragons) has never been more ideal for more varied projectile weapons since Morrowind (cliff racers).

Wars between sovereign states/empires are very different than civil wars. Technological advancements require strong economies and exchange of knowledge and information. I just can't imagine it in the time and place Skyrim is set. For the future, who knows!

If this game turns into fable and brings in firearms and continues to exclude more and more traditional RPG features I will move on and obbsess over a new game. Firearms do not belong in TES. Multiplayer does not belong in TES. I could go on but the simple fact is that some games need to understand what they are and what they aren't and build off of their strengths.

That's very close minded. Fable had lots of unique things that the TES series are just now catching up with (immersive NPCs, jobs, etc). TES can be anything it wants to be when it grows up. It just needs a little more confidence. Beth will never evolve if they don't branch out into what they aren't.

I'm rather partial to fiery-arms, myself. And it looks like my wish has been granted, judging from the screenshot with the ice troll!

You can think what you like but I stand by what I wrote. Fable 3 is not an RPG. You don't choose a single look for your PC, only male or female. Hell you can't even choose a name. Ever iterration of Fable leaves you with less and less. There isn't even an inventory that is available. You have to go back to your castle to do anything, even the options menu. You can choose 1 type of food or drink to use for healing otherwise it's replaced.

As I said if it turns into the mindless Fable series I'm gone. Fable is okay but it's no longer and in depth game. It's a button mashing action game with a few simple choices at key points. If you dig it then that's great but I can't see TES suffering it's fate.

Not that the Elder Scrolls is known for it's deep and interesting NPCs or anything but... you thought the NPCs in Fable was immersvie?

While the faceless and borring NPCs in TES is indeed something i would like Beth to look at, Lionhead Studious is the last developer i want them to draw inspiration from. Instead, they should take a good look at what BioWare is doing. Now "that" is what i would call immersive and living characters.

I just think they will have to add an entire new faction to the series that has already discovered that kind of technology to make it viable. I just don't see starting the next game and ... oh look, we have muskets.

Will be getting Skyrim and Mass Effect 3 . I hope ME3 doesn't have soul gems, they just don't belong there, end of story.

I could see the musket being of Dwemer origin.

Oh come on. Who's to say Nirn isn't some far away part of the Mass Effect universe?

This crap again? There are no guns in TES and they would not fit in to the future of the series both in terms of lore and gameplay. So no. And can people stop bringing it up?

the only kind of firearm i would ever want to see in a tes game is a pirate pistol.
but other than that.NO

at that point they would enter into the age of gunpowder.... and the elder scrolls games of swords, bows and magic would be gone forever. Replaced by pistols, rifles, cannons, explosives.

Don't get me wrong, it would be a cool game. But not ever being able to go back in time means the last of the good sword and magic RPG's will die.
