Mutations?

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 4:22 pm

Considering how nukes had never hit New Vegas or California, will there be as many/heavily mutated animals, ghouls, or super mutants? I'd love to see a regular cow for once, or even have a real bear attempt to maul me! :gun:

Just as much. Not only is there nuclear fallout to spread radiation, but animals will have moved from other places. Also, California was hit by nukes, some places more than others. Also again, Super mutants aren't caused by radiation.

Radiation still hit the areas, due to weather patterns, which explains radiated water aswell... (any upstream radiation)

I say it could be worse.... Tho it didnt get hit. The supermutants in the area were infected with the F.E.V Virus, there are two difrent kinds of supermutants. Many of mutated bugs, and reptiles that you would see liveing in a dessert, but mutated. And many other enemys, including the all to hated, yet loved, DEATHCLAW.

California got hit. Pretty badly, too. Even worse than DC in places.

Check out http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/West_Tek (ie West-Tek, where the FEV was created) and the http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Boneyard (formerly Los Angeles)

To be more clear, what Red here is talking about is what the game is named after. So yes, it's quite possible and highly probable that the mutations are present even in areas not directly hit by nukes.

FEV is in the Atmposphere IIRC, so almost everything would be mutated or dead everywhere.

Case in point, Point Lookout.

Of course, inbreeding probably played a large role there, too.

I thought the atmospheric FEV wasn't enough to mutate people but enough that they have it in their system sort of like how Uranium is in a large amount of tap water supplies.

Well I remember my dad telling me once that when he was a kid, his mother would tell them not to eat the snow after they did nuclear testing in nevada because the fallout would make the rain and the snow radioactive, now my dad was a kid in the 60's so it's about this time period, and my grandmothers thinking is/was on par with the general 50's idea and 30's idea too. also my grandmother is still alive today.. thats neither here nor there, anyway yeah my point is radiation can travel far and cause mutations, even if the area wasn't even directly hit, my dad and grandparents lived and grew up in maine by the way.

I'm hoping there are spiders. The desert has lots of spiders. And if there are some, I hope they look different than the ants, but they probably wont.

Hate to get into semantics here, but they said that New Vegas didn't get hit, but they never said anything about any of the surrounding areas receiving nukes. For all we know, Primm or one of the bases got hit.

Which would make sense. Global Nuclear war and your bases not being targeted? Unlikely.

There are ghouls and super mutants in the game, with a lot of other mutated creatures like big horners and geckos...

I really wanna see mutated mountain lions......
there's reason they can survive and mutate...
they live in the wilderness, so they may be isolated from the nuclear hits...

Yup, they were the best food around. Though I highly expect mutated mountain lions to show up at some point. Then I would create a 40-ish femme fatale character with good blades skill and laugh my buttocks off when I kill them.

Poor kitties. I imagine the mountain lions would be pretty pissed off and pretty hungry by then... better hope your Blade skill is really good. ;)
