MW3 and Skyrim.

Why so much hostility?

Not really hostile, I thought. Sorry if it's come across that way.

But, seriously, this question has been asked multiple times over the past couple weeks. And it's just silly. Everyone knows that the "holiday shopping season" is buried in game releases. The fact that other games are coming out at the same time really shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who buys or plays games. (Plus, with all the game releases every week, where would they move their date to? There'll be other games releasing the week before and the weeks after.)

Also, minecraft will release in 11/11/11 too.

Doesn't really mean much - the game's been available for purchase since last year. Many, many fans of the game have already bought it. :)
(They cleared 2mil sales back in April.)

Sheesh...New threads about GTA and MW3 release dates popping up in the Skyrim forum almost daily. Who cares, totally different kind of game.

Really? haven't been on much to notice, silly me then.

Yeah, and Minecraft. Every popular game that even isn't a RPG. What game next? Halo?

Of course, MW3 will just take away the CoD players. Thats a good thing.

True, and COD players wouldn't have bought the game day one either way...

Yeah, when Bethesda chose November 11th they knew there would be other major titles coming out around the same time. If they didn't want to deal with that they would have announced a January or February release. I don't see any reason people should be concerned about this.

I agree, they arent one track minded people. They know how to play the numbers game, and i think the numbers are on their side.
TES V is a very much anticipated game. I know it was for me ever since i beat OB, i was like okay... whats next? ever since then ive been awaiting this installment.

No im not about compare them, that's foolish.

But something has to give, MW3 is releasing 3 days before Skyrim does, sure to affect sales and what not.

So is Skyrim going ahead for the eleventh?

It will probably affect sales... I'll be too busy buying and playing Skyrim that I won't give a [censored] about MW3.... also, I didn't like MW2 at all.

The first CoD game I played was MW then I tried WaW and was less than impressed so I never bought another. If MW3 was as deep as half-life and had pvp like Monday Night Combat I might actually try it... but it is a shallow rail shooter with stupid "power-up" gimmicks to please kiddies. I am even questioning Skyrim, since I never heard of TES until I came to these forums for Fallout, tried Oblivion, was less than impressed. If they take inspiration from the good features in the Fallout games I will be excited for Skyrim, if they just churn out another Oblivion I may never buy it.

I don't see any problem here, nor do I think any other game will influence the release date of Skyrim.

Hmm... an FPS and an RPG coming out within a 3 day period of each other. Oh the choices!

I mean really people? Skyrim has to come out some time and it's going to be 11-11-11 plain and simple. They've stated that they're confident in this date many times, and when you think about it they can't just delay it every time another big game is coming out, or it would never come out.

If you want MW3 buy it. If you want Skyrim buy it. If you want both, buy them both, and if you don't have enough cash just wait on one of them (if you wait long enough for the CoD game you might be just in time to buy the next one anyways.)

Please change the title to BF3. It is far superior to MW3 and comes out on the 2nd november (according to steam that is, it may just be a place holder)

It seems like Todd Howard and the rest of the employees at Bethesda are smart enough to do some pattern anolysis and read a lot of gaming news. I'm pretty sure they all sat at a meeting discussing a potential release date for Skyrim, and I'm also sure someone was smart enough to mention, "Well, what if there's another Modern Warfare or some other AAA game during the November time frame, which is normally when the huge games like Modern Warfare come out?" It just seems they would have seen this coming. Maybe not though...

Let's not forget that Battlefield 3 might be released around that time also. I think it might actually get a bigger draw than MW3. The gameplay footage looks unbelievable, the Frostbite engine's graphics really show, and unlike MW3, it has vehicles in multiplayer.

UUuuuuuuuuuuum Battlefield 3 anybody. Once everyone sees gameplay footage of MW3 and then compares it to BF3, they will realize one game has progressed and the other hasnt. CODs sales are going to drop this year. Plus, people who like Skyrim will buy it any way.

Who cares? These are TES forums, take your franchise wars elsewhere.

people who play TES imo represent the higher end of the intellectual spectrum when it comes to games.

COD is the exact opposite... everything about the franchise screams shallow, mindless, overhyped, money spinner.
