So here's an idea for a thread (which I am probably unawaredly dublicating from someone else but I never said I had any class)

Ever found a secret / easteregg / piece of environmental storytelling, which you know must have a definite meaning but can't quite tell what it is?

Post it here, either to get smart or intrigue others to see for themselves!

1. Fallon's Department Store

There's a small garage (not the parking lot) on the right side of the FDS building -probably the delivery / goods receiving entrance- with an abandoned little camp inside, i.e. two patio chairs, a crate and some supplies left; no bodies or anything around - except for a few mannequins. As they're everywhere around that store, I didn't think much of it, until I accidentally knocked one over on my way to try the (ultimately faux) back entrance "door". When I turned around, it was standing right back up and a terrifying "jump scare" sound effect played! I was so startled, I shot the damn thing. Well, it fell like a normal inanimate plastic object should, and never got back up again after that.

(To establish I am not crazy -or at least enough to make it sound consistent- after a couple of days I was roaming the area again, when one of the Suiciders must have blown the place up, since I suddenly heard the sound effect again - I went to check the garage after the battle and found all the equipment and mannequins lying around in a disorderly fashion; except Mr. Creepy McGiddyup standing perfectly unscathed in the middle of it all)

What's weird about it, is that it seems so random. Nothing else happens and the scenery isn't scary at all. Maybe I'm missing a reference or something, but other than that, it appears as if a level designer just tried something out and forgot to remove it.

2. Darthmouth Professional Building

This one is killing me especially because I'm a huge detective story fan, and I can't find the missing link. Inside the DPB, you have nothing but the otherwise collapsed portion of a reception area forming a small room, with two skeletons (a male and a female) on each side of a chalk-drawn line on the floor, very much unevenly dividing the room. The line starts underneath a Port-A-Diner machine, and ends (evident by the actual chalk still lying on a dresser right nearby) underneath a pile of rubble with lots of glowing funghi growing ontop of it. The machine itself still works and has a perfectly preserved pie in it. Next to both skeletons are also food items - the male on the "smaller side" with 2 Fancy Lads Cakes lying randomly on the ground, the female on her "larger" side has 3 Crams stacked peculiarly neatly ontop of each other. They're both clutching poisonous substances - "Empty Coolant" and "Rat Poison".

Obviously the COD is clear. What I don't get, is the "why". Obviously some writer went out of their way to tell a story here, but just "two survivors realized their inevitable end and killed themselves" doesn't quite cut it. Why the chalk line? Why the uneven division, if it's some sort of "personal space" marker? Why starting underneath a machine that dispenses food? Why the perfectly edible food next to them, and why did she stack it like that just to drink rat poison?

If anyone wants to take a look at the crime scene (do bring Nick, for god's sake) and give me their two cents, I could rest easier.

So let's hear it, found anything peculiar yet still mysterious yourself?

Have a great day anyways!

I'm curious as to what was really going on in that one bunker where the guy had been reporting all kinds of weird noises to his superiors and they reported back that the tape he submitted didn't pick anything up. Was he in fact just going insane from the isolation and imagining things, or was something really going on that his superiors covered up?

I found two people arguing over what a freakin sandwich is, I think that's all I need to say.

Also, I found a raider base that happened to have a Mirelurk infested basemant. After killing 2 hunters and one king, I used a terminal to unlock the main door. Unfortunately, this caused a queen to appear out of the ground. My immediate reaction was. "Well, I'm done here, good bye, see ya" as I ran past the queen into the door, closed the door on Curie (sorry, your too slow) locked it, and then proceeded to finish up the base.

And to my surprise, more raiders! I was seriously low on ammo, and they eventually threw a PA guy with a Launcher at me. Killed him and took at run for the exit as I had no ammo. Was one heck of an experience.

fascinating stuff!

according to the Fallout 4 wiki:

This building is one of the random encounter locations which spawns 2 opposing factions to contest control of the building. Normally these battles occur between Raiders, Scavengers, BoS, Minutemen, Institute, Gunners, Children of Atom, Supermutants or ghouls.

so maybe the dividing line seen there is why the place spawns 2 forces? But I don't get the reference with the bodies.

That happens outside the building, though. I'm sorry I should have clarified:

The Darthmouth Professional Building waypoint is the (half-blown-open) outside of the building. Usually there's a massive battle going on there. However, there is a door leading you into a seperated map of the inside of the ground floor, which is just the one small room I described. There's nothing of any value in it, the elevator and all ways further inside the building are blocked, and the scene looks very untouched.

Yea, I always wonder about the DP building as well and the chalk lines drawn on the ground. I guess they were fighting over the last food rations? Or maybe they were just fighting, you know, high stress situation... looters, radiation, bombs etc.

I came across this unmarked subway location. It's really small and it could be a reference to "Fight Club", also I don't remember much of the movie, but the scene always makes me think about it.

The funny thing though is the setup. A skeleton with a stogie and fedora, with his arm around a teddy bear that also wears a fedora and has a stogie. They are looking at some sort of fight ring/cage.

Well, here I show you.

So, is that actually a reference to Fight Club? What do you think? And what's with the Sugarbombs and the Teddy bear? Shouldn't there rather be some hard liquor on the table? LOL

Isn't that the Massachusetts State House, near Swan's Pond? I remember fighting that Queen inside. *shudders* The whole center of the building is like non-existent, just a bit of floor remains around the edges.

Dividing the room down the middle is an old sitcom trope, pretty obvious.
