Mysticism Spells

Post » Wed Jul 14, 2010 6:02 pm

So, Mysticism's gone; not too great of a loss, as it was always sorta used as a catch-all for spells that didn't cleanly fit in the more defined skills, and didn't really have a theme of its own. However, this leaves us with a bunch of new spells that need a new home. So, where do we put them? Here's my thoughts:

-telekinesis: if levitation works under Alteration, then I imagine telekinesis would fit in just as well.
-soul trap: Conjuration is about summoning spirits, so catching souls might work there too.
-dispel, spell absorption, reflect: these are tough; Alteration might work, but even that feels iffy.
-detect life: Restoration has most of the life-effecting spells, so I think it would work there.
-teleport (mark/recall, intervention): maybe Alteration, but I'm inclined to go with Conjuration. Summoning a daedra from Oblivion could be extrapolated into summoning yourself to a distant location.

Thoughts?

Detect life will go to Illusion, almost certainly.

I would put dispel and reflect in Alteration, thats probably the best place to put it. Detect life could be placed in Illusion if there is a skill for illusion.

Ninja'd about Illusion :ninja:

Hi i just posted this under another spell thread so may as well paste it here also:

"Hi all.

I'm in the UK and like the rest of us over here just trying to piece together the GI coverage. So i have read that Mysticism is out of Skyrim. Was there any mention of why or what will happen to the particular spells within it such as soul trap, spell absorbsion, detect life etc etc...."

So i guess people are assuming that the spells will just be relocated under different catogories? I do hope this is the case as i really wanted spells adding to the game rather than taking spells away.

I think the list you have made Mirander seems correct, however as you mention, not all of the spells fit into these catogories which has me worried that they may have been ommitted.

EDIT: Very happy with the addition of Enchanting by the way... Thoughts anyone?

I only hope that they give us the ability to go into the Construction Set and actually "add" new skill slots, giving them their own animations, calculations and whatnot. Then I could just add Mysticism back in, since that is one of my character's primary skills. I'm very upset that it is out. That magicka study is the Psijics whole thing; the study of the old ways. So how will they explain the lore of the psijics with mysticism not being a part of the lore anymore?

I''l try to post all my opinions in one list. Don't scold me for it being partially the same as yours:

  • Telekinesis - definately Alteration (levitating an object is affecting its physical properties)
  • Soultrap - probably Conjuration (stealing a soul and commanding undead is pretty close)
  • Absorb Health, Magicka, Stamina - already in Restoration
  • Detect Life - Illusion (akin to Night Eye)
  • Teleport (provided it will even be in the game) - 50/50 between Alteration and Conjuration (Alteration had movement spells in the past, then again Conjuration is about summoning). This uncertainty will probably mean that it won't be in the game :)
  • Dispel - Restoration (surprized? in most cases you use it to remove bad effects of yourself)
  • Spell Absorption, Reflect - Alteration (it has the spell to protect you against physical damage, why not magical?)

Enchanting's back, right? Makes sense Soul Trap would be there now.

I mean, since Enchanting was a total pain to level, one or two spells in that school would really help things out.

tk alteration

soul trap.. gone.. just need the soul gem in one hand and finish the bugger off with the other..

id not be shocked if there were no dispel reflect or absorb spells this time both absorb and relfect were frankly massively unbalanced both as spells and as critter abilties.

detect life likely an illusion

No teleport im betting makes the game too easy.
