Naked in the eyes of NPCs

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 9:40 am

No, people shouldn't comment moralistically towards your lack of clothing. It'd be desirable and interesting to see the people in Skyrim portrayed as more advanced to not recite conditionings that hold no substance. They should just react as if you were wearing clothing - in a positive sense. Since they wouldn't be conditioned to view the absence of clothing as meaning anything more than what wearing clothing would mean.

Well, I wouldn't mind. Although it would be required recording a few more lines of dialogue, which could be used for something else.

It's a minor request, not necessary at all. Why would you want to walk around naked anyway? In RPGs I enjoy living in another world as if I was there, I wouldn't walk around naked in real life.

A lot of times in fallout Id forget I was naked, I play in first person and I'd go days naked until I went into third person and notice because in fallout you don't see yourself when you open the menu.

We shouldn't be able to talk to anyone of higher rank if 'nvde', as they don't want to look pathetic in the eyes of others.
town folks should laugh at us, unless we really have high strength, endurance and a battle axe on the back, they'd be too scared to say anything to a barbarian..
Shop keepers would lock the doors as you walk close to it. Some might ask you if you are aware that you aren't wearig any clothes.

So YES

That would be amazing...

with the more advanced radient AI it will probably be easier to implement this into Skyrim

It's small things like this that make going out in the buff worth it.

I don't see any reason why either men or mer in Tamriel wouldn't have a nudity taboo, considering they all seem to display one, and while I'd be less surprised if the beast races didn't have one that doesn't seem to be the case. I suppose there are some places and situations where it's weaker (it certainly seems to be that way in the Iliac Bay) than ours is, and there might be a race or two who don't really have one, but I don't know of any who you could plausibly say that about. Certainly the Dunmer are known to be fairly strict about it.*

*Though that might have been Tribunal Temple influence, so who knows what they're like now that they're Tribunal-less exiles? Still, I can't imagine that having gone away in only two centuries.

You might have a good point with Forstaag. The others, though, didn't seem to be naked voluntarily. <_<

I hope the AI is built to comment not only on nudity, but also on attire, armors, weapons, even (dare i say) hair? I can always wish...

I know this is even more difficult, but I hope there's an even deeper sense of social diversity with a level of acceptedness with nudity, I think that's a good idea.

It would kind of svck if you got a crappy hair style and you had to spend the whole game getting ridiculed for it... :P

Well would you mind not restricting the role playing experience of us naturists? People are so inconsiderate sometimes.

oh, and they should make comments on what you are wearing

i kept hearing redguards telling me what an ugly outfit i have :toughninja:

Gah, but in Oblivion they were really annoying:

Every single Guard I meet: You look like someone who's comfortable in heavy armour.

Me: *press r, do a full zooming in 360 of myself in full steel* HOW THE HELL DID YOU WORK THAT OUT? IT'S NOT LIKE IT'S BLATANTLY OBVIOUS OR ANYTHING!

In Morrowind, it was nice to see how different people respected you for wearing better things, saying 'a fine outfit' or whatever. So yes to the OP, but also the other way round.

Well, I wouldn't mind. Although it would be required recording a few more lines of dialogue, which could be used for something else.

That's pretty much the point - it lets the game point out how much of a moron you're being. Which is cool :)

Yeah, it was really fun in Morrowind how the NPCs reacted to my character when he/she was naked. :hubbahubba:
I think Bethesda would be able to pull it off even better now that they have full voice acting and radiant AI.

"Stop right there criminal scum! Even beast races are required to wear clothing in public!"

Seriously, if guards don't shout "Stop right there, criminal scum!" i'm going to be angry :stare:

You know, if they're going to put kids in Skyrim, I think going around naked is probably going to get your character put on the six offender registry.

Did anyone else notice or think it was hilarious how when you were naked in Morrowind, the NPCs would notice and comment on it? And how they left that feature out in Oblivion? I personally hope they bring that back in Skyrim, but what do you think?

Yet another immersive feature sacrificed on the Altar of Full Voice Over. Made all the more difficult to implement by Skyrim's multiple voices per race, over Oblivion's 1 voice to 1 race/gender.

I think they should notice what you wearing period.

Wearing crappy clothes, legendary gear, or hanging out in a pub in full armor should all, at least, warrant the occasional comment.
