Naked in the eyes of NPCs

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 12:12 pm

Did anyone else notice or think it was hilarious how when you were naked in Morrowind, the NPCs would notice and comment on it? And how they left that feature out in Oblivion? I personally hope they bring that back in Skyrim, but what do you think?

Well, I wouldn't mind. Although it would be required recording a few more lines of dialogue, which could be used for something else.

It's a minor request, not necessary at all. Why would you want to walk around naked anyway? In RPGs I enjoy living in another world as if I was there, I wouldn't walk around naked in real life.

Yes! One of the best details in Morrowind. I loved it when Caius Cosades said something like "AH, You're a nudist! How wonderful." And hearing the Oridnators saying "That's Disgusting..." when I passed them was a refreshing change from "We're watching you, Scum."

Yeah, depending on what your wearing would be cool, say you're wearing normal clothes around town, they might say something like "that looks hideous" or "nice clothes"

Or if you're wearing a big 'ol suit of armour and a big weapon they might cheer you on as a hero, or cower before your might.

Also, for realism, people should remark on your race, and body type.

I agree on both NPCs commenting on the player going around without clothing, and commenting on your clothes (To an extent, at least they should comment on their quality.) I found it amusing to just take off all clothing, and run around town in Morrowind and see how they reacted at times, that sounds strange, I know, but it's one of those things that can be pretty entertaining. It also makes sense, if you go around with no clothing, people should respond to this. Not incredably important, I suppose, but it would be nice to see it.

Not just being naked, but also your clothes/armor in general.

They did that in Morrowind too, if you have a lot of spiffy armor for example.

Your race is often commented on, depending, but NPCs will refer to your race - not just Valen Dreth in the beginning dungeon of Oblivion. :)

I was always amused by the NPCs noticing that I once again forgot my pants in Morrowind. That was an amusing touch - I wouldn't mind if that made a return.

This, and some rich people might look at you in disgust because you're wearing an armor (thinking you're a bloodthirsty barbarian), others will respect you. I think clothing should have more effect, I never felt it was necessary to wear exquisite clothes etc.

Naked comments in Morrowind were great. But if you were wearing rings or amulets or a belt they considered you to be not naked. Hey, I'm in my undies over here! (Or naked if you run the right mods! :blush2: ) And no one cares as long as you accessorize properly.

If they get over this limitation, yes bring back the funny comments. ^_^

I wonder why people tend to forget that. Probably because you spend so little time with talking to those walking encyclopedias who all sound the same. ^_^

I burst out laughing one time when some Altmer dryily told my cheaply clad imperial that "animal skins really aren't meant for wearing" or something like that.

Yeah, probably, but it shouldn't be a domineering piece of dialogue. Like, I wouldn't want every NPC 100% of the time that I come into a 10 foot radius of them to comment on it. Usually they should just make a standard comment, if any at all. Also, so that resources aren't wasted on a relatively pointless mechanic (since not many people walk around naked anyway), I don't think that everyone needs dialogue for it. Not necessarily restricted to high classes, but just not everyone.

Oh the Imperials use to crack me up when they would say "oo you`re naked! spare me" LMOA. I voted yes.

Yes, this was good in Morrowind. More dialog everywhere, please. My favorite race related one was when you were playing a Dunmer, and the Redguard males would call you Dumner. Subtle but sweet.

We shouldn't be able to talk to anyone of higher rank if 'nvde', as they don't want to look pathetic in the eyes of others.
town folks should laugh at us, unless we really have high strength, endurance and a battle axe on the back, they'd be too scared to say anything to a barbarian..
Shop keepers would lock the doors as you walk close to it. Some might ask you if you are aware that you aren't wearig any clothes.

So YES

It would be nice. And funny to hear, too. :)

Imperials in Morrowind: "Oh, you are naked. Spare me!"
Or Altmers: "Been some time since I've seen one of those."

But yes, NPCs should notice your appearance: so, they should react somehow if you walk around naked. ;)

Problem with how Morrowind handled that was, it had a variable checked for in dialogue filters. That variable, though, just checked for the total value of things you were wearing. Since a ring had the value of a common robe, equipping a ring and walking around in your birthday suit made the game think you were dressed.

Also, that variable wasn't used too often and so NPCs rarely reacted to your clothing. Other than a generic greeting here and there, like "I see from your outfit that your affairs have prospered"...
