Nakedness

now that i think about it it would be cool if they asked if you were cold and gave you clothes or invited you to warm yourself by the fire place ;)

Considering that in all the games you mentioned it was imposible to be naked without a mod, I fail to see why people would yell at you. You'd have to be a serious prude to get uptight about seeing someone in their underwear.
Don't really understand why its accepable to air programs like UFC, and yet natural nudity is considered offensive. I mean sure, you might not like to look at peoples danglies, but any way you look at it its less offensive than a punch to the head.

Martial arts is offensive now?

It would be a crime for me not to be naked.
But seriously. It would be nice to see people react to your clothing, or lack of.

I think an interesting idea would be that if you were nvde (nudity, not nakedness :P), you would suffer a severe hit to your personality/speechcraft, so that people would automatically become more hostile towards you. That way we get the social effect without accomodating cumbersome new voice lines for every NPC in the game specifically about streaking.

You'd have to be a serious prude to get uptight about seeing someone in their underwear.

I disagree. If I'm on the subway and a man or woman dressed only in their underwear sits next to me or in front of me, I'd feel pretty uncomfortable. If I'm going to a class at my university and a student or two come dressed in just their knickers/panties, I'd feel uncomfortable. If I'm at a bar and see someone drinking in just their underwear, again I would feel uncomfortable. It's a completely inappropriate context for that kind of nudity, where it's both out of place and directed at people who have no business or interest in seeing you naked. Am I a prude for this?

More reactions to character appearance would be a good thing in general, but those reactions should vary from NPC to NPC. A naked character would perhaps be treated as an eccentric by the typical Nord, but I'd expect Skyrim's culture to be a lot less insecure and hypocritical on the matter of nudity and sixuality than Morrowind's, or our own for that matter.

And I'll be very surprised indeed if there's not at least one naked Nord fellow somewhere out in the wilds -- more than likely complaining about witches -- so nvde PCs won't be alone...

I assume he or she was referring to violence and how much more acceptable it seems to be than bare skin.

I find it funny how some call "nudity" instances of people still wearing some clothes :P

Yes, at least the strangers should not take you serious if you talk to them naked. Maybe only if they're drunk. The guards may ask you to be decent. The friends, on the other hand, should either make jokes about it, or even flirt with you. The kids should definitely laugh at you and the clerics should dissaprove. of course, I don't want this behaviour in every npc every time I go naked, but still... now and then it would add some atmosphere and lulz.

I lol'd at this thread XD

But i agree with him/her

Maybe not a crime, but I would want there to be more of a reaction if my player is naked. I always thought it odd how I could run around in my underwear in Cyrodiil and no one seemed to notice.

I think if you walk by a guard he'll shout "Put some clothes on!!" or something like that. LOL

I think the beast races should get comments on wearing clothes - I always thinks its odd they try to dress up - can you imagine just how long it takes a khajitt to button their top or an Argonian to get their feet through a pair of pants?

Morrowind had lots of good replies if you were naked - it would be nice to get some new ones in Skyrim

While on the subject I'd like to see some naked Bretons this time - every corner I turned in Vvardenfell there was some poor naked nord freezing his tonkers off thanks to some overly sensitive Breton - I hope the locals in Skyrim turn the tables on the Bretons.

Maybe if you walk in public areas or near palace/royal areas or something, yeah. But there's bound to be poor people in the world who can't afford clothes, so you can't just be picked off the street and locked away for indecency.
Although overall it should lower NPC's dispositions' towards you if you're flaunting your gear. People should also pass by with smug and disapproving comments.

Well in Daggerfall it would matter. If you dressed poorly, then the poor class will like you more, but you will be shunned more from the elite or rich crowd. If you dressed well then the poor class will shun you.

If you went in your skivves, then you couldn't talk to the Royals I believe, so clothing ment a difference in Daggerfall. I wish it did the same in Skyrim, since in Morrowind and Oblivion clothing didn't make a differnce in the game world.

In Morrowind, NPCs reacted to what clothes you wore by saying various stuff depending on what you wore. But it would be cool if they took it further in Skyrim. :)

I admit I did feel slightly cheated after listening to Palonyra's sales pitch, then finding the robe of glib tongues and having no one comment.
But if npcs did comment on your finery or complete lack thereof, could it not quickly become as annoying as seeing mudcrabs the other day and being told to stop 'cos you is scum?

I heard a woman screaming on the town square, "Will not somebody save my child! It got kidnapped by bandits, is there no brave soul out there ?" I stepped forward and approached her, a mixture of horror and confusion was painted on her face, "I shall save young Timmy, the security of young plump boys has always been of importance to me". The woman started to shake, her eyes ran up and down my body as she stepped foward. *SLAP* "Buzz off freak!, I′d not let you save my boy even if you were the last hero on Nirn!"...

That′s when I realized I should probably put some clothes on.

Barbarians were almost always naked so meh and besides are YOU going to walk up to someone wearing full daedric armor with a glowing magic sword and say "Put on some damn pants!"?

It would be nice if the NPCs react to your nakedness, but I don't think it should be considered a crime.

Hehe this always reminds me of Arcanum and the quest in Tarant where this gnome wanted you to run through the town naked until enough people complained about you and you got a reputation for being a nasty exhibitionist (and suffering a reputation loss with practically everyone in town)

This would have made more sense in Cyrodiil. I don't think it fits quite as well in Skyrim. Considering how strongly influenced it is by Conan/Vikings in general, both these sources generally had a lot of nudity. I'm not expecting nudity in the game though. That will likely be the first mod.

I will definitely be getting a mod like that, just to complete the Conan feel :P Good thing I can rely on my fellow modders to make such a mod almost right away. I'll pay you guys back with an awesome player house or something.

The Elder Scrolls and all of the varying cultures are not the medieval times. Everyone please please stop using this idea as a point of argument for anything. It is irrelevant.

It's the quest to unlock master training in Sneak or whatever that skill was called in Arcanum, probably how you missed it. Tips : the master training in Sneak is worthless and certainly not worth the "Pervert of Tarant" reputation :P

Think about that Oblivion response for a moment. :whistling:

I'm hoping for reactions to your attire. Not constantly (I can see people remarking on your clothing or lack thereof more than your Rep for taking out a freakin' Dragon publicly), but if it stands out. Like someone may come to you for aid because they see some guy/gal dressed in Ebon armor and think "He looks like he can handle himself!", or approach you and say, "My kids can see your knickers, put some pants on!"

Plus they should have a no shoes, no shirt, no service joke somewhere in the game.

Personal Favorite nvde Experience in Oblivion: *parades through 'city' nekkid :twirl: and passes a Dunmer* "Get away from me."

The game may not be based on medieval times but we can still come up with ideas that reference medieval culture.

All that post was trying to say was that cultural norms are different at different points and places.

Coming up with ideas that reference medieval culture is fan and dandy, but trying to refute an idea on the grounds that it doesn't fit in with medieval times is ridiculous because Tamriel is not medieval times. It is in its own time and space. It is the Fourth Era.
