Name ALL THE THINGS

Seriously though, I dont mind having bandits just being called "Bandit". But really? "Mage Apprentice"?? That was a stable character, give him a [censored] name. I think that was just lazy on Beth's part and while I dont mind someone who I dont have the opportunity to have a conversation with not having a name, I can easily ask the non hostile "Mage" what his name is.... I dont want to see [censored] like this in Skyrim.

In real life, I don't know peoples names by just staring at them

I agree... but not with the aggressive tone.

I'd like just a random name gen for these sorts of things, since there's apparently going to be more randomly generated characters. I don't even know if it's possible, but it would be nice. :)

Im sry to bring bad news but

Its a mixture of the two
Many are named many are not named
This appilies to all btw
An npc can not have anything for you to do except say a random gesture but still have a full name
However there will be "citizens" "farmers" ectt

This is one of the few things that Two Worlds got right, EVERY NPC in the game, even the generic filler guards and civillians had individual names.

No, I agree wholeheartedly with the OP and I understand why you're pissed. I am too. Even if its as limited as to asking what services are around town, or what the latest rumours are, I want to be able to converse with anyone and everyone. Plus, those generic names can change an NPC from seeming lifelike and unique to someone who is obviously generated and fake.

would it be so bad to talk to the vicious bandit, you know about not fighting? (for evil characters) "hold on a second, you like to take and pillage..so do I,how about it?"

I don't really mind. I don't think you should know anyone's name until you've talked to them. Walk into a bar and see 5 people named 'Bar Patron', you talk to each of them, and now if you walk back into the bar you see them by name. Would also make it easy to know who I have talked to.

Meh. NPC names don't matter to me. They're either "He/She's Gonna Live" or "He/She's Gonna Die".

It really destroys immersion though. I want everyone to have a name. Yes you dont know everyones name in real life, but its even more unrealistic to never know their names. If everyone is unique, then they should have a name.

Also, if they are going to have random people in town named "Citizen" there better be 100+ people per city.

I'm being attacked by a group of bandits? I magically know all their names before I slaughter them? Perfect! That's not a weird, malicious thing to be wanting in a game where killing everything is a viable option...

The only problem with that is that youre completely wrong. I definately said that i dont care if bandits are named but i want all citizens and non hostile people named. Try reading next time tard.

The game can't keep cycling through names for randomly generated characters which will die and disappear, so that the game can spit out another randomly generated character.

Wait, does this mean its going to be like FO3 where half the people in Riften are going to be called "Riften settler". Or that random people you meet in the wilderness that dont have a schedule are going to called "Hunter"? Im fine with #2, almost expected it. IM NOT FINE WITH #1 however.

I do agree with you OP, but tune down the hostility a bit.
It isn't that big of an issue to be that pissed about (at least in my opinion).

Yes, it potentially could?
I can't remember how robust it was, like how often the same Forename Surname combo appears, but Arena and Daggerfall had very useable random name generators for its multitude of random generic NPCs.

Could someone give me a concrete definition of what 'immersion' is? I feel like people are creating their own identity of what immersion is.

Immersion is certainly not having someones name displayed without it being said first, that's for sure.
