Name of Guilds

Am I the only one who thinks that Fighter's Guild, Mage's Guild and Thieve's Guild are amazing names and who are gutted to hear they will not be in?

I think the names of the new mages' guilds are better in any respect; The Synod, and the Colledge of Whispers. I have no idea what both of them entail however. The Fighter's, Thieve's and Mage's Guild sounded, frankly, very boring and esspecially the Thieve's Guild seems kinda strange for the name of a criminal organization that would more likely prefer an incognito exsistence. That name is more a huge Neon sign than anything.

Yes, i think you are the only one i'm afraid. I'm amazed its taken them this long to expand on these obvious and vanilla names, especially for the thieves guild.

I agree with the above that the whole "Mages Guild" and "Fighters Guild" thing was kind of boring. I mean, it did give us a pretty clear picture of what the organization did, but I wouldn't mind factions having names that gives them a bit more identity, especially if we're really going to have both the Synod and College of Whispers as joinable factions, as that would mean at least for mage factions, there would be more than one group available. And when you have two or more factions that both cater to the same general character type, you need something more unique. Now, I'm not sure how appropriate the College of Whispers and Synod are, the latter is somewhat of an odd choice considering that we've never seen any whispering involved in using spells before, but it sounds better than just "Mages Guild", and the Synod really depends on the nature of the organization.

I'm loving the new Mage guild names. I think the Fighters Guild will be replaced by something akin to the Blackwood Company; a government-independent mercenary guild.

Actually, I'd love something like that. I'd immediately make a CM_Partner-inspired mod using a mercenary guild.

Black-wood-company is an actual name for a guild, which basically is a fighters guild. The names could be more.. creative when it comes to the guilds we can join. I mean, the necromancers guild was called (the order of wurm?) instead of necromancers guild.

Agree with previous posters. Fighters, Thieves & Mages Guild were a little bland and generic.
Also in a civil war-torn province its probably hard to be a province-wide politically neutral organisation like the Fighters and Mages Guild.
I'm hoping that the factions in the civil war will play a big part and that the Thieves Guild will be replaced by organised crime (like the Camona Tong).

"Thieves' Guild" makes sense as a name among people who aren't part of the organisation themselves and only know about it through rumours, but I think that people who are actually a part of it should use a slightly classier name.

In the charter, they were no longer called the Syffim, however: bowing to the name it had become known as by the people, they were to be called the Fighters Guild.

I would have to say Mages/Thieves/Fighters Guild is kinda getting boring after almost 20 years. It's about time the names are changed.

I just hope the factions don't disapear. I don't really know much about the name changes, trying to be spoiler free, so name changes are great, not having them at all will svck.

Giving the guilds new names (like the synod and the college of whispers) is by far more original and immersive.

This. They could also go back to the fighters guild old name The Syffim like an earlier post said

IMO, the College of Whispers is a pretty awesome name. For that, I give one of my characters to them as tribut - regardless on what political/moral views they have!

I also agree with the Thieves Guild being a bit too obvious a name. Comona Tong? Now that sounds a bit more intimidating. :toughninja:
(Although I could see people in town who don't now much about this guild saying things like: "What is [Insert New Thieves Guild Name]? You mean that guild of thieves?"

I also liked The Black Water Company mainly for their name (is that the correct name or did I accidentally think of the real mercenary group its based on?)

Basically, I want the Guilds to actually sound like a real organization (which usually means a more 'creative' name)

The College of Whispers and the Synod are good names, IMO. I think it would be cool if the Fighters Guild got it's original name back though. The Syffim, after the Tsaesci word for 'soldiers. Even if it is an Akaviri name I think it is a good one. Read the "History of the Fighters Guild" for more info about how the FG was founded.

Has it actually been announced that all the guilds are being renamed? I was aware of the split in the Mages Guild and Todd's mention of new factions but nothing more. Have i missed something?

Not too concerned about the names. I just hope they have good and interesting quests. Maybe even more things to do when you get to the top. What's in a name after all?

Amazing? They strike me as...generic.

A guild of mages? Mages' Guild. Not terribly original, that.

The new names (at the very least, for the Mages' Guild...haven't heard about the others) will lend them more credibility and mystery, to my mind.

Not that it matters much. As long as the names are believable and not ridiculous, all that will really matter is the content.

I will miss them, then. I think the Thives Guild was a great name. It had a bit of defiance to it.

I know right? I mean what's up with those Freemasons, that stale tired old name's been floating around for how long? Few hundred years or so and then some?

Yeah, we need much cooler names like "The Honorable and Loyal Order of Liberators of Others' Repressed Property."

No wait..."The Gray Fox's Goon Squad!"

"The Obtainers."

:P
