Named power armor frames, no more

Post » Fri Feb 26, 2016 6:04 pm

I noticed after the patch, my sets of power armor frames were no longer named. To be specific, I had on Clint's Power Armor, Tess's Power Armor, Danse's Power Armor (found in rubble after a battle), along with various other BoS, Atom Cats, Raider frames. All those PA frames just say the default "Power Armor" now. Was this intentional by developers? I was happy with my collection, it felt unique and showed off my war trophies.

At first I thought it was cause I also updated my mods, but I disabled all mods and loaded up the game and its still the same.

How... how were you able to rename the power armor frames?

Are you using any mods? There are certain mods that affect the map cell which causes the Power Armor to reset to T-45 Power Armor. This bug only affects found Power Armor so bought Power Armor won't be affected. There is a mod out there that lets you craft found Power Armor into bought Power Armor to bypass this bug.

I didn't name my armor, some of the frames were already named if they belonged to a special faction or NPC. I'm not currently using any mods since I am trying to figure out if that is what caused it in the first place.

There may be confusion between the Power Armor Frame, and the named armor pieces.

The Frame can be used alone, without any armor pieces.

Armor pieces can be improved, mixed and matched, and given treatments which can change their name. All of the BoS Armor essentially has a treatment (like Lead-Lined or Hot Rod) called "BoS" or something like that. You can actually remove that from Power Armor pieces (and also from the Combat Armor they drop).

Unless... did you manage to trick Clint into leaving his original power armor frame? Like by stealing the Fusion Core?

It seems it was a mod that I uninstalled and forgot about, Buildable power armor frames. Forgot I uninstalled/deleted it after I updated to the Beta version of the game, hence my confusion. There are many variants of power armor, this mod can read the code and labels it accordingly. My apologies! Should have investigated more indepth...

And yes, i did steal Clint's specific set of armor, sniped the fusion core til it popped out

I need to get good at that.

Did it get marked as Stolen? (components highlighted red)

I need to get good at the sniping trick. I've managed to pickpocket one BoS fusion core, but the armor still counts as Stolen to any civic-minded Companions.
