What I actually want to know is if that list includes surnames as well. I intend to make a character with name + surname, so how will other NPCs address me? Can the game differ between a name and surname? Those are bothering me more.

Codsworth said Howard instead of Todd because that is what the player's name was. Apparently "Howard" and "Nora" are the default names for the male and female PC respectively.

Pete stated that they won't release it because they don't want people to name their characters based on a list. Except that people will, even if they don't release it. I'm not sure if the majority of people will, but I know a few people (including myself) that will. Depending on whether or not you can save after making your face, I'll either save after creating then try out names until I get one that works. If I can't save until after I make my name, I'll just use a preset then make sure my name works before restarting and actually making my character.

I know a lot of people think "It's just one character, who cares?", but even if it is one character I want him to be able to address me by name.

I would hope that, though this is unlikely, the final version of the game allows you to select a portion of your name for Codsworth to say. So if you name yourself "Billy Joe", and select "Billy", Codsworth will call you "Mr. Billy". Same thing if you select Joe. Probably won't be included, but it would be awesome if it was.

I don't believe it can support surnames - one of the e3 videos showed a character named 'Phil Spencer' speak with Codsworth, and Codsworth just skipped the name-saying line entirely.

It'll be weird if you romance a character and they still call you sole survivor...

The names list will most definitely not be released before the game releases. The only way you can hope to see the names list is if after the game comes out someones sniffs out all the names in the code and creates a list.

Wonder what happens if you name your character Codsworth? That would be a great easter egg if they put in lines of dialogue specifically so the robot can make fun of you for having the same name as it.
