I name spells with a formula, so that I can find and recognize them easily in my spellbook. So, for instance, I'll have a spell named:
@ Fire 15 + WF100/WM100
That's on-touch fire damage for 15 points plus weakness to fire 100% and weakness to magic 100%. Or
=( Shock 10x3x20
would be on-target area-of-effect shock, 10 points of damage for 3 seconds over 20 feet.
I name defensive/buff enchantments just based on what they are and what they do. Mithril Greaves of Strength or Ring of Night-Eye or Shock Shield Shirt or.....
The only things I invest any creativity in (and it's honestly not a whole lot) are weapons. I like one word names that evoke the effects of the weapon. Virtually all of the weapons that any of my characters use are enchanted with all three elemental damages plus soul trap, but I arrange the amounts and order of the damage to get whichever animation I want for the item. So, for instance, Dave's short sword, which uses the fire animation, is named Scorch. Mindi's war axe, which uses the shock animation, is named Limina. Kyla's claymore, which includes absorb health in addition to the elementals and uses the absorb health animation, is named Wither. Tina has a bow that does weakness to fire, frost and shock that's called Stagger. Sees-Two-Fish is a dagger specialist-- he has a bunch of daggers, all enchanted to do different things. One does fire plus turn undead plus soul trap-- it's called Reaver. His elemental daggers, which all do elemental damage plus weakness to that element plus weakness to magic plus soul trap, are named Flicker, Shiver and Bolt. And so on.
I have two characters with weapons that have people names. Claudia has a heavily enchanted dagger that does fire, frost, shock and soul trap plus weakness to fire, frost, shock and magic. It's named Jack. That was just a whim on her part. She thought it was sort of funny.
Hale has a war hammer named Fred. He's not all that bright and that's what he came up with and there was no talking him out of it. Worse yet, he speaks of it in the third person, and shouts things like, "You will now face the wrath of Fred!" which just isn't as threatening as he seems to think it is, but, again, he's not very bright.
And Bob has a sword that does command creature and command humanoid that's called Gamebreaker, because that's what it is.
