Naming Daedric NPCs

Post » Wed May 18, 2011 7:38 pm

I'm new to modding, and I recently had a burst of inspiration and creativity, causing me to begin writing a quest mod. I decided that I would plan on making this mod with the Creation Kit for Skyrim, since that's so close, and I'll be able to be an early adopter of the kit. I hit a real snag, though, when it came to creating names for NPCs. The mod itself is about races that don't belong, so it features daedra, Falmer, Maormer, and the Akiviri Ka'Po'Tun.

Tamriel Rebuilt's name generator has been great for naming vanilla races, but I haven't found anything about daedra. It's fully my expectation that there is no generator, and I suspect there's really no standard. However, I'm wondering if anyone has some tips, some advice, or a source of named daedra that appear in lore.

First off, what type of daedra are you talking about?

The only types of daedra that will be included are Aureal, Mazken, Xivilai, Auroran, and Daedra Seducers (the sort that appeared in Battlespire). I'm doing something that could be considered a sequel to Integration.

Integration had a similar theme, maybe look at some of the nameing ideas in it?

Tesserayial (Aureal)
Kara'shivial (Xivilai)
Kenerial (Mazken)
Turumin ( Daedra Seducer)
Teshekru (DS)
Thoseare some basics I can remember offthetop of my head. bg knows a lot about lore, and I'm not sure how he made up the names but they should be fairly apropriate naming conventions.

Some of the older games like BattleSpire and Daggerfall have Daedra NPCs too, if you want more direct lore names.

EDIT: Bah, I really have to get out of the habit reading the first post and then skimming the rest. Anyway, bg might be able to help you, you could also look into some of the in game books (I believe Daggerfall had the most, andthere was at least one real novel), or maybe... check out the http://www.imperial-library.info/, posting this on the lore forum mighthelp too.

Definitely some good ideas there. I do remember seeing the names of a few Seducers while skimming the Battlespire plot from Imperial Library, and the lore forum might have something to say as well. I actually contacted bg this morning, via message, asking for permission to include elements of Integration in my mod, and for advice on naming daedra. I know he's not very active on these forums, but I am hoping to be able to call my mod a sequel to Integration, and include cameos if possible. Poking around on uesp's Aureal and Mazken pages, I was able to find their lists of ingame members of those races. I'll likely compile as many lists as I can, using the books referenced at the Imperial Library, any records from previous games, and bg's work.

If anyone else has any tips, though, I'm still open to suggestions.
