Naming Game Saves

Post » Mon Nov 08, 2010 4:54 pm

I hated in Oblivion not being able to name my game saves. When you're late in the game, you'd probably have multiple save games, different chars. etc. it got so unorganized.
In Oblivion I had branches of save games, for example, a plot changing decision... I could play one branch out, and if I didn't like the outcome, I could just reload the other save... maybe another branch for cheats, or mass murdering, etc.
It just makes it more organized; and for us console players, its not like we can just mod it in...

Hell to the yes! For Jiub's sake, the code's already in there anyway, there's a PC console command to make a save and name it. Take the half-hour of one coder's time to add it into the interface already!

EDIT: For The Todd: If Apple made an RPG interface, it would have the ability to name your saves. (In a pretty, proprietary Apple font, but still...) ;)

I second that.

That's an interesting idea. Sort of want...

What I'd really like to see is the option to separate saves into different categories. That way, you could put all of your saves for your first character in one category, all of the saves for your second character in another category, and so on, and so on.

It would look something like the following:
Character #1
Character #2
Character #3

Upon selecting one of them, all of your saves for that character will be shown, just like how they were in Oblivion. And obviously, you'll be able to name them what you want, rather than 'Character #1, 2, 3, etc, etc'.

/agree. In other games with plot decisions I'd make saves "before [major plot event]" and such.

Yes named saves please. It just makes sense

Also, yes to be able to categorise then and put them into 'folders'

Todd keeps going on about how they learned from the Apple interface. Well, if so then go the whole way and give us the ease of use and flexibility that I have using my Macbook or iPod.

I would prefer organised saves.. So you create a character and automatically that character gets a folder..
Mr.Nord?
Save 1
Save 2
Mr. Khajiit?
Save 1

etc. etc.

I did hate Oblivions, lets just put all into one big pile save system.

I didn't hate the lack of the option in OB, but loved the presense of it in MW so I support this.
I rather have separate folders for each character though, since I lost many good characters to the save slot pile i OB. Also keep the option to delete a save game without having to exit the game completely(that annoyed me a lot in DA:O).

I don't mind the default names for the save files, but some sort of profile/character system where the saves are divided up into different folders/areas/lists/etc would be a good improvement.

i couldn't care less, i liked the whole "save 1" "save 2" "save 3"

What i do want however is to be able to sort your saves by character, be it in a folder or name, like say "John 1" "John 2" and then instead of being sorted alphabetically or date, it'd be sorted by the date of the character's creation (or customizeable)

or we could just do folders instead :whistling:

please please please stop with this idea that coding is simple even changing relatively simple things within a massive code base can cause massive errors that are hard to detect even at the best of times and changes can effect the whole game. does the term segmentation fault mean anything to you? its not just programming its one more thing for the UI guys to do and then it has to be integrated with the xbox dash and its more space off of a hard drive not much but it still counts... consumers think in gigabytes as programmers we think in bytes and bits that string of text can become costly over the hundreds of saves its just some food for thought
