Naming weapons

Post » Thu Feb 04, 2010 5:12 pm

I was just wondering what peoples opinions were on the subject. I remember playing oblivion and making a elven longsword called Callandor(guess the reference and you'll understand) which had 100% weakness to all elements and low elemental damage for each element but apparently that doesnt work with oblivions spell system but then there was that elven bow in shivering isles that though weaker than normal elven bow and unenchanted was a named weapon. SO does anyone else think it would be nice to do that or at least perhaps not have an annoying glow on your weapon if not?

I'm pretty sure you can do this with the Console anyway.
But apart from that I think i'd prefer it if you could only name things after enchanting them; just like in Oblivion.

It's an alright extra feature but I wouldn't want any time spent on it.

Won't make me happy or sad. My reaction would be "oh niffty" and I would move on.

If they way you went about obtaining, building, and naming weapons in Vagrant Story was adapted to Skyrim, I would die happy.
In Vagrant Story you can combine weapon blades that all have different stats and elemental and enemy-type affinities. Then you can set them into different types of handles (Hilt, crossgaurd, pole, etc.) depending on what kind of blade you have. Then you can attach gems with different powers onto the weapons. Putting something like that in Skyrim would give us the ability to all have our own awesome and original weapons.

For example, you could combine a glass broadsword with an ebony rapier and end up with a Glass and Ebony fusion longsword, then put it on hilt with some classy-looking gems and give it a custom name.

EDIT: Well I went pretty far off topic, but I still think this would be awesome.

I'd like the ability to have a Signature Weapon. This would be a weapon that you could give a custom name and possibly choose a new look for. While wielding this weapon you would get special bonuses and if you have it equipped when talking to NPCs they automatically know your name and reputation.

Would take any extra time. Just letting people use the enchanting alter without actually adding an enchantment would do the trick.

I would like to actually add a new level to the to blacksmiths and perhaps the armorer skill. I'd like to see a reforge option that let you name a weapon / inrgave it with runes and perhaps add +damage to it without it actually being an enchantment.
